In order to discover Lyon you do not have to make other that to walk between the 2 rivers that cross it and crossing the center climbimg on the hill that surpasses it. If you spend a night in this city you'll can't forget the magical atmosphere.
b1bob's Lyon shopping tip nº5
by b1bob about Galeries Lafayette
Galeries Lafayette is a French department store chain. Each storefront looks decisively different. That's why I have a tip for this in Paris, Nice, and here in Lyon. All I planned to buy on this particular outing was some scented soap for Grandma Atkins. I found just that at the Galleries Lafayette department store, scented in vanilla, chocolate, and orange vanilla. Everything that Luc and I bought seemed to be reasonably priced.

La Thou Restaurant in Bouligneux, a small village north of Lyon. It is a 2-star restaurant with excellent gourmet food.
More photos in travelogue, text later, 2002-May-04.
Besides its excellent food. The restaurant has an award-winning garden. Frogs. Red wine yogurt. Desserts. (Details later). The owner Gabriel served us. I asked him for a copy of the beautiful menu as a souvenir!
Brazilian Fest
by barney1974
Every year there is a Brazilian festival, which is centered in the old town part of Lyon. Plenty of activities to go and do. The highlight was the parade that meandered through the streets interlocking with all the pedestrians. I don't know if I could stand to be as naked as some of them though while it's that cold out!
Two Rivers Runs Through the City
by hquittner
Two rivers run through the city but the west one, the Saone, flows into the Rhone at the south end of Lyon. The tourist is more attracted to the Saone because its west bank rises at first gradually and then as an abrupt hill called the Fourviere at whose top is a 19C Basilica and a modest sized Eifel Tower and because it holds the Old Town. The city also spreads out to the north on a plateau area called the Croix Rousse where silk weaving still occurs. We never went to the edge of the Rhone in the several days we were there. Thus our pictures are only of the Saone and two of its bridges and the Passerelle du Palais de Justice, a walking bridge.
