Travel Tips for Meylan
Dent de Crolles
This close up shows the "Dent de Crolles" from mid height. The slopes are deeply carved with gullies and ravines. The access to the "Dent de Crolles" is not on this side. A paved road passes at the bottom of the "Dent de Crolles" cliff. From there, it is possible either to climb (ropes needed) to the top or hike on one of the trails that follow the base of the "Dent de Crolles".
Oisans
On this photo, the Oisans massif, part of the "Grandes Alpes", a crystalline massif made of granite, schist and gneiss appears in the background. The part of the Oisans that shows here is Belledone. The hills on the foreground are "le Balcon de Belledone" (Belledone's balcony). A narrow road follows the Balcon de Belledone and gives superb landscapes on the valley.
The Chartreuse forests
The Chartreuse forests are mainly fir trees with occasional deciduous trees. In autumn, you can find many sorts of wild mushrooms (see my Alps mushroom travelogue on my home page) : boletus, chanterelles, etc.
Gardens
In three parts of Meylan, plots of land have been kept and divided into very small gardens that are rented to citizens that want to have a few square meters for fresh parsley, chives, salads or tomatoes. It is always very small, from 10 to 50 square meters, but that allows citizens living in apartments to remain in touch with nature.
