"Cœur vert" in Meylan
by JLBG
Along the LGM Lycée du Grésivaudan à Meylan) a large strip of land is called "le cœur vert" (the Green hart) and is a favorite for many of the citizens for a quiet little walk. In the middle a very large sundial has been built. The center of the star perched on a pole is what gives the hour and the date.
The Chartreuse massif, cliff side
by JLBG
This photo shows the Chartreuse massif from the valley (in Meylan). The Chartreuse massif is part of the "pré-Alpes", a calcareous massif.
On the left, the cliff of the Mont Saint Eynard. On the right, in the background, the "Dent de Crolles", a popular destination for hiking and/or climbing. At some periods, it can be crowdy !
Saint Eynard
by JLBG
The Saint Eynard is a long cliff that is parallel to the valley. On the valley side, it is a cliff while on the other side, it is a slope covered with forests. On one point, a road gives an easy access to the top where is a fort (see off the beaten path tips).

The Chartreuse mountains, forest slopes
This photo shows some of the Chartreuse summits from "behind". This is the side with slopes covered with forests. If you enlarge the photo, you will guess that the top of each mountain is a rim with a cliff.
Col de Porte
by JLBG
From Grenoble, the Col de Porte allows driving inside the Chartreuse massif. Twenty kilometers of a good road lead to the pass. This photo shows a typical Chartreuse landscape: forest up to about 1000 m, depending of the orientation, meadows between 1000-1500 meters and eventually rocky scree covered slopes.
