"Morzine - Chamonix"
Saturday August 23rd, 2003
Left at 6.45 h along highways up to Epinal. From here along secondary roads (routes nationales) and arrived at Morzine at about 17.00 h.(780 km). After having visited the tourist office to buy some maps, we drove along the the hotel, Le Grand Tetras.
We were appointed a renovated room above the restaurant (La Rocaille).

After breakfast we left for Chamonix. We stopped in Les Gets to visit the local (artisanal) market. After having visited the market, we changed our plans and drove to Lac de Montriond (lake and recreational area).
We walked up to the Cascade d Ardent (waterfalls). The Ardent hamlet consists of a number of Swiss courages mainly for rent with a British tour operator. We returned to the lake for a drink at a terrace. After supper we visited La Salle district.

After breakfast we headed for Chamonix a 2nd time. We halted in Sallanches and admired the nicely flowered marketplace (old bicycle, hanging baskets...). In Chamonix we left our car at the parkingplace near the Aiguille du Midi: a 10 minutes walk to the center of the city. Walking, sitting on a terrace, dining... enjoying the nice weather..
At about 3 pm we drove to the Reserve naturelle des Aiguilles Rouges (protected area at the Col de Montes). Even before we arrived at the park center it started raining. While we visited the educational center rain started pouring down. We waited some time for the rain to stop, but as this was not the case, we returned to Chamonix (here it was sunny again). After supper we attended a concert (for harps and flute) in the church of Morzine (10 euro). We enjoyed it very much. After the concert we drank a Kilkenny in a pub near the bridge over the river Dranse.
