The Grande Motte stands at an impressive 3656 m and is actually a glacier. This means to all those that dont know is that you can ski all year round. Unfortunately this year it is closed from May 12th to June 20th inc. I believe this is for maintenence or something.
One of the draw backs though is because of its height, if the skis are not completley clear you could end up skiing through a mass of cloud which is not the nicest thing in the world. To get up to where the photo is taken you have to take the funiclaire (which is like an underground train),then for the real die hards there isa cable car taking you all the way to the top. Sometimes this is closed due to bad weather conditions.
The thing i have yet to tell you is that you can actually go up the Grande Motte as a pedestrian. I wouls reccommend this to everyone as the view from the top is fantastic. At the top of the cable car it shows a map of all the mountains you can see. On a clear day you can see as far as Italy. Whether you are armed with a board or skis or just a pedestrian you need to wrap up warm. Its freezing up there. Dress u extra warm so you can stay up there that bit longer to take in all the views.
