The church of Yvoire
by Lilasel
The onion-shaped dome is in the style of the Savoy and Piedmont religious architecture of the late 19th century. The steeple was originally covered in tin, but was replaced in 1989 because it got so rusted that people didn't care to look at it. Today you will notice it for sure and you'll stay wondering for some time.
The Castle of Yvoire
by Lilasel
When Count Amadeus built the town, he also built himself the castle, which sits on a chunk of land that juts out into the lake. Even from afar, its silhouette stands out from the rest of the geography. It's the first part of the village seen by boat.
The Castle of Yvoire
by Lilasel
The castle, which was built between 1306 and 1311, was protected with a moat, high walls and a drawbridge. The castle has been occupied by a local family, the Bouviers, since 1655. So it is not open to the public.
Lake Leman
by Lilasel
Lake Geneva (rarely Leman Lake, in french: Lac Léman or Lac de Genève) is the second largest freshwater lake in central Europe (after Lake Balaton), divided between 2/5 France (Haute-Savoie) and 3/5 Switzerland (cantons of Vaud, Geneva, and Valais).
