Aschaffenburg
"Castle Johannisburg"
Just half an hour away from Frankfurt. Located on the river Main - is both: a vital industrial centre and an attractive recreational area (65 000 inhabitants)
King Ludwig 1 called it his "bavarian Nice". As long ago as 1828 Ludwig made Aschaffenburg his summer place.
The imposing landmark, the mighty castle "Schloß Johannisburg" and the "Pompejanum" - a roman villa rebuilt on plans discovered in Pompeii - are only two of the many examples for the long and rich history of this town.
