Travel Tips for Augsburg

by Mikebond

Senkelbach is one of the canals of Augsburg; my host-family lived in a street near it. The other canals are the Lech and the Wertach.
This canal system was very important for the economic development of Augsburg in the past ages.

261 steps and a great view

by King_Golo

The Perlachturm, located just next to Augsburg's town hall, probably provides the best view over the city. 261 narrow steps lead you up to the top from where you can enjoy a 360° view over the rooftops and houses.
The entrance fee of 0,50 Euro has to be paid on top.

Where the Fuggers lived and reigned

by King_Golo

The Fugger Houses in the centre of Augsburg once were the family's trade empire headquarters. From here, they dominated the European trade. Today, the buildings are an exclusive address and house an expensive restaurant, some companies and the Fugger Private Bank. You can walk across the yards in the middle of the buildings, but I'm not sure if there's a guided tour through the buildings themselves.

The Mozart House

by Nemorino

This is the house where Leopold Mozart was born on November 14, 1719. He lived here for less than two years, though, before his family moved into another house nearby, in the Jesuitengasse.

In 1737, when he was eighteen, Leopold Mozart left Augsburg to enroll in the University of Salzburg, Austria.

In 1747 he got married in Salzburg, which is also where his musically gifted children were born.

Bishop's Residence: Hofgarten park

by Kathrin_E

The little garden inside the complex of the Bishop's Residence has been turned into a public park.
The original garden was planned by Johann C. Bagnato in 1739-1744. The 18th century pillars and fence, sculptures and gates are still there. garden itself has been redesigned.
The small park is a cosy and quiet refuge that invites to rest and relax on a chair or on the lawns.
