On my own traces...
When I was a kid my father was in Bad Kohlgrub for a treatment and we had spent 4 weeks here. He had his treatments and afterwards we discovered the area. It was very exciting as we could visit many places around. But one thing in the village Bad Kohlgrub stayed in my mind. It is the hike to the top of the Hörnle. We did this hike twice back then and now I got the idea one weekend to drive east to Bad Kohlgrub to find my traces from that time. Of course I had to hike up there. Seems I forgot very much how strenous the hike is... the glorification of the past, when everything was easier ;) So not fit at all from my year in Finland without mountains I had to make several breaks, but managed the hike. The hike is not difficult! It is a hut which serves snacks and beverages, that I pointed out as my destination. The hut called Hörndlhuette is located on 1390 meters and run by the German Alpine Club (DAV).
The path to the top is in pretty good condition, most of the time it leads through the forest. But there are also good views.
Check out the travelogues below for some photos and impressions from the hike.
Forest protects the hiker in summer from too much sun.
