I thought Merkur was one step above Novotel but well, in Erlangen this doesn't seem to be the case. the hotel was pretty average. It is located outside the city in some new and not so nice buildings.
The room is furnished decently but it definitely looks cheap.
One positive point, in the bathroom, there was no bath, at last, a shower on its own! Too bad there was no dedicated soap and shampoo, you had to use that kind of mixture serving both use at the same time!
Another good point, my room was on the ground floor (well in fact in -1) overlooking some green area. It was however not as quiet as I would have expected. I found out the day after there is a railway track a bit further...
Not sure if the 'restaurant area' was only for breakfast or was also open in the evening. Anyway the limited choice didn't really make you wish to give it a try... Thanks god, reaching by foot the first restaurant in the center is definitely doable, it's just a matter of a 10-15minute walk.
