The fresco of the dome
I will arrive in Oberammergau by train for the Passion Play but my hotel is in Ettal. What transportation is there between Oberammergau and Ettal?
There are buses (bus line #9606).

There are half a dozen or so bus stops in Ettal. Such you have to find out which one is the best for you. But for an idea about the schedule you can use the above examle.
Ettal is a nice alpine village with some nice houses. Everything looks so well-cared and all the houses in a very good condition. The landmark of the village is the monastery with its great church and dome, which can be seen for far already.

It seems that tourism plays the main role in the economy. There are a lot of hotels and restaurants here.
This is the monastery yard. What a silent and peaceful place to relax. And there were also just a hand of tourists here, so I liked it very much. Futher everything looks so clean and well-cared ... but it seems that EVERYTHING in Bavaria is clean and well-cared.
Have a look on picture and read the explaination: If you go straight you will come to the "Klosterladen"- the monastery-shop offering souvenirs, selling self-made liqueur and beer of corse ...
This is the only entrance for the visitors to the church, but mostly people will not see the great gothic ornaments, as they somehow will search for the famous baroque interior only.
I have to admit, I also did not see it, when I entered the church, but I saw a pic of it on a postcard and finally went back in order to search for it and take a pic !
The dome is really breath-taking with all its great paintings and a lerge chandelier.
Lots of windows around the dome will let in enough light into the church, so photography is possible almost without any problem.
100 or 200 ASA is enough, all my pics were made by my digital camera.
Have a look for this great organ, built on a small balcony in the back of the church.
On my pic you mya also see the large windows of the dome and the white walls, that add a lot in order to have such a light interior that is rather unusual inside such a church.
