The library: very unique
by meteorologist1
This is unlike any library you see everyday. The look of the library is just different from anything in the world today. The books are old, the shelves are old, but there's more to those things being old...their colors are very unique for books. Mostly white. A very memorable place for me.
Cycling through bavarian countryside
by Freising
There are a lot of small roads and paths to take and most of them are delightful. All you need is a good map of the area (Kreis Freising; 1:50.000) which you can get in every book store in town.
Don´t expect anything too pitoresque. It´s mostly nice but common bavarian rural landscape you will be riding through. Dont forget to take something to drink with you - it can get quite hot on the open fields.
South of Freising there is the "Moos" a flat landscape of fields and meadows with small lakes and creeks. Not much shadow there, but a good choice for the less sporty.
If you dont have a map and dont want to get lost take a tour along the river Isar. Upstream or Downstream you´ll find nice paths along the river on both sides. The "Auen" (woods) also provide good shadow.
North of Freising you find the valley of the river "Amper" and further on the hills of the "Hallertau" (where they grow the best hop of the world for the best beer in the world). Cycling in this area might be a little bit tougher, as there are quite some acclivities to master. On some of the bigger paved roads the country folk applies to a very fast and risky way of driving (their cars) - avoid them.
I am trying to collect some tour descriptions in my Things to do section for Freising. Many of the smaller roads are not paved, so you need a bike with thicker tires. Of course there are enough roads to also use your racing bike, but you will have to plan your trip carefully or you might be in for a very rough ride. Dont forget to pack something to drink and use sunscreen. It gets hot on the open fields in summer.
City of Freising, Bavaria
by meteorologist1
Freising is located north of Munich in the heart of Bavaria. It is a friendly, comfortable country city. You will find a typical Beer Garden in the city, where you can enjoy traditional Bavarian food such as Bratwurst, Leberkase, and much more. Take a walk in the city center and have an ice cream cone. Then visit some churches on the hill. The churches are some of the oldest in the country.
Freising is only 15 minutes from the Munich International Airport (8 km) and has some great hotels. See this quiet little German city yourself! This is real Germany!
