Boat Tour Lake Forggen

by Maryimelda

Can anyone give me any info on the boat tours of Lake Forggen please? I can't seem to find anything specific online only that there are two boats the MV Fuessen and the MV Allgaeu. I'm looking for time tables and prices not to mention reviews (naturally).

http://www.stadt-fuessen.de/3977.html149.html

has info about both boats.

The site is in German. 'Fahrplan' on the left-hand menu is 'timetable','fahrpreise'is fares (very reasonable).

The Fuessen tourist info site also has a page, with photos of the boats themselves. It's in German and, oddly, I cannot find the page in its english translation.

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ is a useful online translator.

I went on this boat tour a couple of years ago. From what I remember there was one that lasted about half an hour and then a longer, two hour trip. It cost 10 euros per person but that may have changed now. It was a lovely trip, the sun was out, the lake is calm and relaxing, there is a drinks and snack bar on board too.

I would definately recommend doing this!

Travel Tips for Füssen

Ammergebirge

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Füssen is situated in the south of Bavaria at the bottom of Ammergebirge and Allgauer Alps. This city is one of the most southern and high-mountainous cities of Germany. From the south the city is covered with mountains.

Foothills of the Alps caused its arrangement at height about 800 meters above the sea level. Füssen is in the district of Ostallgäu and situated only 5 kilometers from the Austrian border. Being near to Austria, this small town is the beginning of the way leading to Tyrol.

History II

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

The peace treaty between the kurfurst of Bavaria Maximilian III Joseph and Maria-Theresa was concluded in the Fuessen Castle in 1745. Maximilian III Joseph decided that his father waged war with Austria in harm to Bavaria.

Therefore he concluded the peace treaty in which he refused all the claims on the Austrian inheritance and promised to the spouse of Maria-Theresa his voice at his election as the emperor. Maria-Theresa gave Bavaria all the Bavarian areas occupied by the Austrian armies and refused any compensation. All allied armies left Bavaria.

Near Fuessen there were three fights: between the Austrians and the Frenchmen on September, 13th, 1796 and on July, 11th, 1800. Then - between Tyrolean army and Wurttemberg army - on August, 18th, 1809.

Seeing der Alpsee

by iandsmith

In a way it's not really an "Off the beaten path" activity as there is a well trod path around this small lake at the base of the alps. It's just that compared to Neuschwanstein and Hohenswhangau, the number of tourists is a trickle.
I had wanted to walk around it on my previous trip but ran out of time and was uncertain just how long it would take. Had I simply noticed the sign my question would have been answered! It happens to be about 90 minutes around this body of water and, on the northern side there's a lovely aspect looking directly at the first of the alps.
On a clear day you might get a wonderful reflection shot but I had to make do with a reasonable one as my pictures indicate. They also reflect that it was wintry conditions although it was Easter, albeit at the earliest of its dates in March. It had snowed lightly for the previous two days and was about to dump even more that day and night and that made for a nice colour variation on the peaks. It's a fairly flat walk except for a minor hill near Hohenswhangau but it's definitely not suited to wheelchairs and can get a bit wet after snow, as it was for us.

Power to the people

by iandsmith

I had wondered the previous year what this building was all about but really had so much else on my mind that I forgot about it. This time I pursued the matter further. What was this white structure over the river?
It turns out that it is a hydro-electric power station and it only started working in 2007, so I had seen it just before it actually opened.
It's situated just below the Lechfall (where the river Lech cascades down some man made cataracts) but you have to walk a few hundred metres to actually get a good view of it due to the small gorge below the falls.

Marienbruecke for the best view of Neuschwanstein

by globetrott

Marienbrücke is an iron bridge over a gorge and a waterfall in a distance of about 300 meters from Neuschwanstein and it is for sure the very best place to take a pic of the famous castle. Marienbruecke is the place, where the bus from Schwangau will take you, and you simply have to walk on 200 meters.
On my 1st picture you may see Marienbruecke, as it looks from one of the windows of the castle, and so you may also see the small alpine-river underneath, falling down the "Pöllatschlucht" ( a gorge )
