We had a very nice stay at the Altstadt Hotel Zum hechten from May 27-29, 2007. Our main goal was to visit Neuschwanstein Castle in nearby Hohenschwangau. It served the purpose nicely. The guest service personnel were helpful and friendly, our room was spacious and comfortable. The shower was a bit small, but that is the norm in European hotels, so we were expecting it.
The hotel was a short, 5 minute walk from the train station and was along a narrow street full of shops and restaurants. The town has a castle, which looms over the hotel, so it was easy to find!
We ate at the adjoining restaurant both nights. The food was good, and so was the service. They have menus in several languages, which was convenient. Breakfast was included in the room rate, and was tasty. Typically German breakfast with a variety of breads and sliced meats, along with cereal, yoghurt and hard boiled eggs. The room was nicely decorated.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay here enough to recommend it to anyone.
This place was very nice, the old gentleman running the place gave us a tour of the place before we checked in and made sure we knew where to park. We stayed in one of the apartment style rooms, which was more like a big hostel room. The television was outside the room in more of a public area. Breakfast was very nice, standard German breakfast, meats, cheeses, breads, etc.
I made sure when we checked in that they took credit cards, but as par usual it was 'not working' when we came to pay. This seems to be a regular occurrence in Germany.
Unique Quality: The location is wonderful. You can walk right to the castle in the middle of town, it looms above the hotel. The walking part of the Altstadt is right there. Numerous restaurants and shops to keep you busy. A walk up to the castle is well worth it, the steps up are just down the street from the hotel.
