German restaurants

by Parisman

Will be in Garmisch in September. Can anyone give some good German places to eat? Love German food. Thanks

RE: German restaurants

Hello, not to be sarcastic, but you will be hard pressed not to find a good German restaurant in GAP or Bavarian restaurant to be exact. In the city center you can try the Wildschuetz or for a little more dosh the Garmischer Hof. I would try the Posthotel in Partenkirchen for a nice atmosphere and good food. However, finding good food in GAP is like hitting water after falling out of a boat. For other specific tips, please take a look at my GAP pages. Tschuess, Bill.

a month in garmisch

by skecge

My wife and I will be spending 4 weeks in Garmisch-Partenkirchen this summer. What is the best (cheapest) option for such a long stay? We are up for anything - to include a vacation home rental or Zimmerfrei or a regular hotel room. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I stayed in Ettal, a small village near Garmisch last October in a B&B for $35 a night for two. I think that is the best rate to be found. You may be able to also negotiate a monthly rate that is slightly less. This price also included breakfast. It's a great place. If you would like more info e-mail me.

In the Garmisch area Gästehäuser (Bavarian style bed&breakfast) are quite affordable, simply because they usually have more guests staying there, than people living there. Every second house is offers B&B. I don't think a married coupled would wanna stay at a campsite...
A good website is:
www.gapinfo.de

Enjoy Germany's most beautiful area!!

How about a FeWo (Fereien-Wohnung) or a holiday apartment / vacation rental.

Here's a page for you:

First, stay out of the main street area (Kurkpark & Marienplaz), because you will pay premium for that. Good nearby areas: Zugspitzstrasse, Bahnhofstrasse, and Hollentalstrasse. Some places worth checking out for monthly rentals: Regina (08821/561 59), Hotel Garmischer Hof (08821/91 10), Gastehaus Buchwieser (08821/95 20-0), and Gasthof-Hotel Alpengruss (08821/26 16). Of course, there are many others to choose from.

try the Garmischer Hof. www.garmischerhof.de
It costs DM150-250 for a twin room with a bathroom or shower and including breakfast, service and tax.
It is hotel that is decorated in the Alpine style and is convenient for rail access to the Zugspitze mountain.

I am visiting Garmisch for a week in late august and am renting a Holiday Apartment called Ferienwohnung Ramet, there are 2 apartments there and the smaller one is 50 square metres and about euro 60 per night but the owner may consider a reduction if you stay a month. It is fully equipped and right by a bus stop and across the road from a supermarket.
If you go into a search engine such as google and type in ferienwohnung+ramet+garmisch it will bring up the website which is available in 3 languages including English. The owner speaks excellent English.
