Though it said hotel, it seemed more like a guesthouse. We did not have reservations. They took 60€ cash up front for the two of us. The room was small with a tiny bathroom you could barely stand in. But, the shower had hot water and the small television worked. The heater in the bathroom worked but not the heater in the bedroom. There was WiFi (amazingly enough). For what it cost, I thought it was a decent accommodation, especially since we had not made reservations ahead of time. We tried a few other places but they were either booked up or did not want to rent out for just a single night. We had to check out by 10am.
DO NOT STAY AT THIS INN!! The innkeeper was dishonest and rude. The day of our departure, she asked us to vacate our room at 10:20 AM and was mad that we hadn't left by 10:00. She wanted us to pay in cash, even though our agreement stated credit card. She added an unexpected "city tax" that she required in cash. So we gave her a 50 euro expecting 40 euros change. She refused to give us our change. She stood at the room door watching us pack and demanded the room key. In our hurry to accomodate her, we didn't do a check of the room and closets and we had left some clothes, worth over $1000 in the closet. When we contacted her about them, she refused to give them to us, justifying the theft saying we wouldn't have left them if they were valuable to us.
Our stay there tainted our entire experience of Garmisch.
No parking. Rude innkeeper. Don't order the breakfast - it's misrepresented in the menu.
A lovely place where your balcony overlooks the mountains. We were 4 people for 4 nights and on the 5th night another lady joined us. the cost of the apartment for the period was 627.40 Euro which included the taxes.
Kornmuller gastehaus is a self catering apartment in Marienplatz. Very nice place indeed and centrally situated. We had two bedrooms, one en-suite. Seperate bathroom, lounge, dining room & kitchen combined and a lovely balcony from where you can watch over the Alps. Nice and quiet neighbourhood. Cost was Euro 27 per person including the taxes.
Private room with a double bed, private shower/toilet, breakfast delivered when you want it, quiet, super super location. What more can you ask. And 60 euro per night per room.
Great location, clean, nice landlady, privacy, just super.
From Hohenschwangau we drove an hour to our next stop, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and checked into our guesthouse (Gaesthaus Hamburg).
Located in Garmisch, it was very charming. Our clean and comfortable room had a private bathroom, TV, WiFi, and a balcony with a view of the Alps! Good breakfast buffet. Hostess, Anneliese was very nice and helpful.
Located within 10 minutes walk of town center on a quiet street. Parking is available.
For generations this family has catered to royalty, and it shows.
The rooms were charming and I'm so glad we treated ourselves
to two luxurious nights at this hotel.
The food was outstanding. There is a bar
and sitting room that can keep you occupied for hours just people watching.
The whole basement of this hotel is a Luxury Spa complete
with heated pool, sauna, massage therapist, etc.
Two of us stopped while driving by - the G. Hohenzollern is close by the shops and pedestrian streets - and had a very pleasant stay. Small, with carved wood decorations, beams, paneling and ironwork, and run by a delightful and energetic couple, Frau and Herr Denes, this is a pleasant stop (Note: He ran the 1984 NYC Marathon in under 2 1/2 hours). The living room furniture is the only weird note ( 1970's ??) A typical German breakfast is served.
The typical Bavarian decorations and the location. Off-street parking is availabe for an extra fee at a garage across the street.
I've stopped at various hotels around Garmisch and they all met my simple requirements of being clean & tidy with friendly & helpful staff. I don't like reccomending hotels because everyone's requirements can vary so much and my needs are only for somewhere to get my head down. Having said that I would reccomend the hotels in Garmisch who provide much more than that. Many of them have their own websites with links from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen.de website. There are a hadful of VT reviews too. Prices vary and so does the type of room so find one that suits your needs. The Hotel Schell is probably the best value in town whilst others I have used are Hotel Leiner (by the Ski Stadium) Hotel Aschenbrenner (by the river) Hotel Roter Hahn (near the station) Hotel Vierjahrseiten (by the station). I found them all to be good hotels and was made welcome in them all.
Of the hotels I mentioned I would add some individual points. All of them provided good buffet style breakfasts. The Leiner has a lovely garden & an indoor swimming pool. The Schell has a smal residents bar. The Aschenbrenner has a breakfast room and terrace where you can eat outside when it's sunny. Our room also had a fridge full of beer which was sold at supermarket rather than hotel prices.

This was a cozy place located about a 20 minute walk from downtown but lovely and definetly affordable. There is a lovely courtyard, nice decks with great views and spacey rooms that are clean are inviting. The owners were really welcoming the only downfall was the distance to town but it wasn't that big of a deal. If we had stayed there longer we would have rented bikes from the local shop in town.
I was duped by the unusually low rates--only about 50 euros for a room that sleeps four. Well, the inn faces a church about 20 feet across the street. It bonged every 15 minutes. Not even ear plugs could block the sound.
It was the dead of winter and they would shut off the heater at midnight. BRRRR
Right next to the train station is the conveniently located Hotel Schell. It's right in between the two village centers, and located on a quiet and shady side street that runs along the dividing Partnach river. The hotel is cheap, clean, comfortable and has very friendly staff. The hotel was also mercifully shaded by trees, meaning my room was a cool and steady 21 degrees the whole weekend, even when it was in the 30s outside. The only downside is that the view from the balcony was nothing special. Some of the other rooms may have been better, but all I had to look out on was the hotel opposite and a little piece of mountain through a gap in the buildings. Still for 30 euros a night it was excellent value.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were lovely and comfortable and the hotel is right next to the Schloss Linderhof. We had arrived late in the afternoon and decided to rest, have dinner, and tour the castle in the morning.
There is a very nice restaurant in the hotel. The meal was declicious, Bavarian cuisine.
We got an outstanding deal on this hotel. Probably due to the fact that we were almost the only guests.
Had a pleasant stay there in October 2004.
Great view from the (small) balcony, landlord/landlady extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast (only 2 euros!) served at the time you want. The rooms are a good size and clean, there was only one shower but that didn't cause any problems. A surprising extra was a discount card given to us. This had several free and discounted offers including: free travel on the local bus network, 2.50(euros) off any local cable-car ride and the same amount off the entrance fee to the Deutches museum in Munich.
Landlord/Landlady, views, location, discount card. Free parking.
