Haus Hohenzollern: Garmisch-Partenkirchen Inn to avoid!

DO NOT STAY AT THIS INN!! The innkeeper was dishonest and rude. The day of our departure, she asked us to vacate our room at 10:20 AM and was mad that we hadn't left by 10:00. She wanted us to pay in cash, even though our agreement stated credit card. She added an unexpected "city tax" that she required in cash. So we gave her a 50 euro expecting 40 euros change. She refused to give us our change. She stood at the room door watching us pack and demanded the room key. In our hurry to accomodate her, we didn't do a check of the room and closets and we had left some clothes, worth over $1000 in the closet. When we contacted her about them, she refused to give them to us, justifying the theft saying we wouldn't have left them if they were valuable to us.

Our stay there tainted our entire experience of Garmisch.

Unique Quality: No parking. Rude innkeeper. Don't order the breakfast - it's misrepresented in the menu.

Gastehaus Kornmuller: Gastehaus Kornmuller

Kornmuller gastehaus is a self catering apartment in Marienplatz. Very nice place indeed and centrally situated. We had two bedrooms, one en-suite. Seperate bathroom, lounge, dining room & kitchen combined and a lovely balcony from where you can watch over the Alps. Nice and quiet neighbourhood. Cost was Euro 27 per person including the taxes.

Gaestehaus Hamburg: Perfect Choice!

From Hohenschwangau we drove an hour to our next stop, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and checked into our guesthouse (Gaesthaus Hamburg).

Located in Garmisch, it was very charming. Our clean and comfortable room had a private bathroom, TV, WiFi, and a balcony with a view of the Alps! Good breakfast buffet. Hostess, Anneliese was very nice and helpful.

Located within 10 minutes walk of town center on a quiet street. Parking is available.

Highly recommended!

Hotel Staudacherhof: Four Star

For generations this family has catered to royalty, and it shows.
The rooms were charming and I'm so glad we treated ourselves
to two luxurious nights at this hotel.

Unique Quality: The food was outstanding. There is a bar
and sitting room that can keep you occupied for hours just people watching.
The whole basement of this hotel is a Luxury Spa complete
with heated pool, sauna, massage therapist, etc.

Gasthaus Hohenzollern: Traditional Bavarian Lodging in Garmisch-Partenkir

Two of us stopped while driving by - the G. Hohenzollern is close by the shops and pedestrian streets - and had a very pleasant stay. Small, with carved wood decorations, beams, paneling and ironwork, and run by a delightful and energetic couple, Frau and Herr Denes, this is a pleasant stop (Note: He ran the 1984 NYC Marathon in under 2 1/2 hours). The living room furniture is the only weird note ( 1970's ??) A typical German breakfast is served.

Unique Quality: The typical Bavarian decorations and the location. Off-street parking is availabe for an extra fee at a garage across the street.

Various hotels: Hotels in Garmisch

I've stopped at various hotels around Garmisch and they all met my simple requirements of being clean & tidy with friendly & helpful staff. I don't like reccomending hotels because everyone's requirements can vary so much and my needs are only for somewhere to get my head down. Having said that I would reccomend the hotels in Garmisch who provide much more than that. Many of them have their own websites with links from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen.de website. There are a hadful of VT reviews too. Prices vary and so does the type of room so find one that suits your needs. The Hotel Schell is probably the best value in town whilst others I have used are Hotel Leiner (by the Ski Stadium) Hotel Aschenbrenner (by the river) Hotel Roter Hahn (near the station) Hotel Vierjahrseiten (by the station). I found them all to be good hotels and was made welcome in them all.

Unique Quality: Of the hotels I mentioned I would add some individual points. All of them provided good buffet style breakfasts. The Leiner has a lovely garden & an indoor swimming pool. The Schell has a smal residents bar. The Aschenbrenner has a breakfast room and terrace where you can eat outside when it's sunny. Our room also had a fridge full of beer which was sold at supermarket rather than hotel prices.
