We stayed here for three nights in late September, 2007. The hotel and the city were fairly quiet. I would guess that things liven up a lot during ski season. The hotel is downtown and within a short walk of the casino and restaurants.
The establishment is just about 100 years old. Heavy wood panels adorn the reception room.
Old oil paintings and Oriental rugs fill the lobby and dining areas. We had a group of twelve and were promptly greeted. The staff delivered our luggage to our rooms. All the rooms were large and had balconies looking toward the alps. The place was very clean. The layoutof the hotel was a bit of a puzzle reflecting several additions throughout the years.
A nice breakfast buffet was provided. Bacon and eggs could also be ordered at no extra charge The buffet was set up in a sun room that was very pleasant.
We ate dinner and were quite pleased with some creative fare along with the standard Bavarian specialties. The meals were reasonable considering the quality of the food.
There were two bars. The downstairs bar was a bit more active, although this will be eliminated to build a spa. There was an indoor pool and hot bath. I did not use them, but they looked fine.
Unique Quality: Mr. Reindl was often visible, asking us if there was anything that he could do for us.
The view was great. A few tables were set in the garden area and provided a pleasant place to enjoy a glass of beer. Staff was very friendly.
Four of us stayed in a suit which had a complete kitchen, including dishes (an inventory was posted on the wall). There was a very large living room. This was an impressive room for the price.
Directions: Two minute walk from the railroad station
We will be in Garmisch for Christmas. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant for Christmas dinner?
There are two hotels, Reindl's Partenkirchner Hof and Hotel Zugspitze, which both have good restaurants. Reindl's Hof is perhaps a bit more upscale than the other restaurant.
Where exactly will you be staying during your trip? There are some very nice and typically Bavarian places in Partenkirchen, but that may be some distance from you if you're staying near Marienplatz in Garmisch.
One place you may want to try is Gasthof Fraundorfer, another is the Gasthaus Drei Mohren, and a third is the Hotel Gasthof Schatten. These three places are small and quaint and might give you a cosier Christmas spirit.
