Nuernberg / Nuremberg is in a distance of just 60 km from Geiselwind and it would be a pity to miss it, when you are almost there already.
In Nuernberg you will see a lovely town-centre with lots of buildings dating back to medieval times, gothic & baroque.
There is a great cathedral, an old fortress opposite of the train-station and nowadays it is used a shopping-centre of local handi-crafts and there is an interesting castle high above Nuernberg / Nuremberg .
In December you may go to the scenic Christmas-market and taste one of the specialities Nuernberg is famous for :
Nuernberger Lebkuchen (gingerbread)

a cheap hotel & a great base for excursions

Geiselwind is a small village at the northern end of Bavaria. It offers severeal cheap possibilities to find accomodation along the highway, BUT in quite a distance to it, so you may rest peacefully at night.
THIS is my favorite hotel, when-ever I go from Austria to Hamburg or further into the north...
A single room in this Hotel Strohofer is just 47 euros, breakfast-buffet included, and your modern room has private facilities & TV and there is even an indoor-pool on the 3rd floor, free of charge !

Geiselwind has also another attraction : a recreation-park for the whole family.
...and within a short time you may get to Wuerzburg or Nuernberg / Nuremberg or to Rothenburg ob der Tauber...
