Feriengasthof Cafe Helmer: Best address this holliday week

by wandeljp

We remained 2 nights in this important establishment (80 beds).

Situated to the calm in this small town, far from the commotion of the circulation, the hotel have the advantage of to be at less than an hour walking of the castles.

Here the parking is free, while to the foot of the castles the parkings are expensive. Do not forget to ask the reduction card (to which every resident to droit)for the visit of the castles. %s

The rooms are spacious offers all the comfort wished.

The personnel is smiling and serviable. The dishes are copious and tastefull.

The service is top. A good part of the sunny side of the building is occupied by a welcoming terrace , the card of the drinks offers a big choice for a price all soft . At the time of our passage (July 2011) innumerable flowers decorated all the balconies giving a typical aspect but to the how much magnificent one to the building.

Hotel Pelikan Garni: Quaint Bavarian Hotel

by wabIV

This beautiful hotel is nestled in a quaint neighborhood and offers a very personal experience from the attentive staff. Enjoy a breakfast of fruits, eggs, juices, local meats, cheese's, fresh rolls, bread and pastries.

This quaint Bavarian hotel is only 300 meters from the Marketplace in Old Town. The rooms are nicely furnished and have wonderful window views of a quite residendial neighborhood. Enjoy a pleasant breakfast buffet in a charming dining room furnished with antiques. The bike trail is 100 meters away.

Ponyparadise: Farmhouse

by Florida999

We rented an apartment at the Ponyparadise farm in Hopferau, which was about 10 minutes from Fuessen. It was inexpensive and the owner was nice but really did not speak much English. I had a little bit of a hard time with her Bavarian German also, but we did sort of communicate....
The apartment had 2 nice bedrooms, a real bathroom with shower and all ( not always available in guest houses) and a very basic kitchen.
My daughter tried to ride one of the larger ponies and got thrown off twice!! ( she rides well). She told me she was never going to ride a wicked German pony again, lol!

Absolutely beautiful location! Great place for kids, they loved all the animals ( well, except that pony).
We had fresh rolls for breakfast each day, delivered to the house by the bakery

Ferienhaus Hafele: Self catering, with a hell of a view!!!

by Hellfirejen

We have stayed here each time we have been to Schwangau. The family who own the house live in one of the ground floor apartments and there is another ground floor apartment and two first floor apartments to book. The house is traditionally German, it has wooden everything, very clean, neat surfaces and a great balcony. Familie Hafele are more than happy to help with any queries you have, although they do not speak so much English. I would highly recommend this guesthouse for anyone visiting the area.

The house is directly opposite the castle, with nothing between but fields, which are often full of cows and the odd horse, giving excellent views. It is fantastic to wake up on a morning and have your breakfast on the balcony overlooking the mountains, and is also amazing to watch from when there is a thunderstorm! It is situated in the small town of Schwangau, away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area, Hohenschwangau, the town at the foot of the castles. There are two small supermarket type shops, plenty of restaurants, a touristy postcardy shop, a couple of junk/thrift shops and a lovely outdoor pub just over the road. The walk to the castles is about half an hour at most, but you do not feel like it is a trek as the scenary on the walk is so breathtaking.

Elefantentreffen 2006: Accomodation High Season @ Elefantentreffen

by marco2005

The campground is high season on the Friday of the Elefantentreffen till the next Sunday. After it's closed. Unfortunately booking is not possible. But not be scared of the overcrowding.
In this fine touristic site, once paid the entrance fee you will be invited to follow the white line that leads to the white area, where you can put your tent in the typical Teutonic regular order (if you have a snow shovel for all that white mass laying where you suppose to put the tent).

Elefantentreffen is just around you!

Chiemgauer Hof: Great place in november

by tessy

We stayed in the hotel, the have also appartements for rent. The ladies at the reception have been very helpful and gave us good infos. And the indoor pool was just on the other side of the street, 2 hours for free.

We stayed for 5 days there. We have chosen that hotel, because they offered a very good price, had a fantastic breakfast buffet and a a good meal in the evening. And when I travel in november I like to have a sauna in the hotel, because I like hiking and going after hiking into the sauna to relax! I didn't use the fitness room, because it looked a bit old.

Buchenmühle in Spessart: amidst beeches

by elgin99

In the Southwest of Lower Frankonia, between Karlstadt and Lohr you find the pilgrimage church Mariabuchen (see activities), and situated down under the church in the valley a wonderful hotel and it´s good restaurant, named Buchenmühle.
French cuisine or local specialities, best service and comfortable rooms, wonderful guest garden.
This hotel was built 1726 as a hunting castle and was till 1928 a watermill.

Deep amidst beech forest, very quiet and romantic.

This hotel is not far from Munich international airport.
I was staying here as I had early morning flight and it was a great choice with this nice hotel facility.

Peaceful nice terrace and bar, good restaurant, sauna and of course wireless LAN. .-)

Lot of "Zimmer Frei" notes do not really mean it

by curiouslumi

It is true that there are lot of zimmers (rooms for rent) along the tourist roads like "Alpenstrasse".
Indeed you see many of notes as you pass by. But this does not mean you easliy get a bed for the night.

We left one last night for chance and it took several hours to find a place.

It was Monday and we needed a room for one night. Several places that had the standard "Zimmer Frei" (room available) sign posted were closed for their own vacation or other reason.
One lady first agreed to rent, but then refused - one night was not worth it. for her.

At the end, after driving some 15 extra km , following signs to Zimmers, we did find a place to stay. It had more beds than we needed, and was much more expensive than we planned to spend.

Bottom line - it's worth spending extra time on preparation and booking a room in advance. you'll save time on the road, money and some frustration.

Hotel Blauer Hecht: Very Comfortable Hotel

by JJBlondie

The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good as well, with coffee, tea, juice, eggs, potatoes, wurst, pastries, and cereals. Very standard "American" fare actually. Not sure what amenities the hotel has because we weren't there long enough.
