Bräuhotel Steig: O.k., but not what we had waited for
We choosed this hotel, even if it was little more expensive than some others, because it was told to have own brewery. Tasting different beers is kind of hobby to us. We told our friends how we will go to brewery-hotel, and some of them were jelous. When we arrived, we had dreamed to take a housebeer first, and then walk to Lindau island.
When we arrived, we had troubles to find out if the place is even open! When we found the door, it was locked, and there was a note for us saying we could take a key from keybox and get in. The whole hotel seemed like"dead". We needed to forget the house beers. In their door we finally saw a sign saying, that beerhouse is open only friday to saturday (it was sunday). There was no any info of that in their page, we would not have taken this hotel, if we would have known. It was 15e more expensive than the other one, and more far from centre.
For some reason there was also a sign saying" Breafast served at restaurant on sundays". So we thought we wont have breakfast either. But that we did-I don´t know why there was that sign about sunday.
Rooms were o.k.,and bed comfortable, views nice from window, but it really wasn´t wort of allmost 100e for a room! We had much nicer rooms at better hotels much cheaper. We paid to visit the brewery-hotel..
I guess there is house beer sold fridays and saturdays-but no other days :(
It really should be told at the pages of the hotel-booking.
Another "unique" quality was also that the restaurant wasn´t open also! In their pages it looked like they would have a restaurant every day.
If this hotelroom would have been about 50 to 60 euros, and no promises about brewery and the restaurant, we would have been satisfied. So what was wrong, was unkept promises, nothing worse.

Hotel Schreier am See: Wonderful family-run hotel
In early May, I had the pleasure of a very short stay at Hotel Schreier am See in Lindau. My only regrets are 1) that it rained and 2) that we could not have stayed longer at this great hotel. We were first greeted by Herr Schreier and then checked in by the very friendly Frau Schreier, who took us to our room. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome, as did the whole staff there. The hotel is fairly small, but very new and modern. Our room, a "Cappucino," was bright and had good amenities, including a cold, well-stocked, minibar and a towel warmer in the bathroom. The best part, however, was the patio/terrace with its table and chaise lounge, and view out over the lake. Unfortunately we weren't able to enjoy it for long because of the rain. Although we didn't use it, they apparently have a sauna as well. Their attached Eiscafe (Gelato) is also quite nice, with tables out on the Seepromenade. It serves a selection of Italian ice cream, drinks, and small food items. Breakfast is also served in the cafe. I really want to visit this hotel again sometime in the summer when the weather is nice. I highly recommend it to anyone considering a visit to Lindau. http://www.hotel-schreier.de/
Views of the Bodensee, great terraces. Friendly family owners and staff. Personal attention. Bright and modern. 5 EUR per day Wireless Internet.

Bad Schachen: Maybe the top hotel all around the Bodensee
We did not stay here, we did Lindau on a wonderful daytrip from Tirol via Allgaeu and Bregenzer Wald returning back in late evening via the Arlberg and even in case of the need of an overnight stay we had chosen a cheaper option.
The setting of the hotel is unique and when the Nobel Prize Laureates hold their annual meeting in Lindau they stay here.

Hotel Bayerischer Hof
This is probably the best hotel on the island. The island is fairly small to begin with so that isn't sayig much, but there is a real elegant, old world feel about this place. I have not stayed there, but I have eaten dinner there one several different occassions and have not been disappointed. The first time I went I had a wonderful lasagne and chocolate mousse. When I returned in the winter, we were the only ones in the dining room and they were serving a limited menu. The mousse was not being offered that evening, but they went out of their way to make it for me. Lovely place.
