Hi, We will be in Mittenwald on April 11th. I have been checking the weather and looks like they are still getting snow. Am I corroct on this? Is this unusual this time of the year? What do you think I shoud expect arounn the time I will be there? Thanks so much!

It was snowing this morning here in the Mannheim area, far away from the alps! The first half of April snow is still likely in the mountains and not at all unusual.Check the weather forecast shortly before you leave, if we're lucky spring will be there. This site is pretty accurate:

not unusual at all, though perhaps rare in recent years. All parts of Germany used to have snow around April during my childhood days. You must prepare for this as well as chilly rainy weather, but you can also expect some quite warm and sunny days, afternoon temperature in the valley might go up to 22°C. Bring and dress in layers, the outer shell layer being a lightweight waterproof but breathable goretex or similar jacket, the second shell being a zip-in fleece jacket doubling up as a warm sweater in case the weather turns nice and sunny, it will still be rather cold in the evenings and at night. It wouldn't harm to pack a long thermal underpant, either.
