Beware of the lions!
by King_Golo
Munich has become a dangerous place to go to: There are lions everywhere in the city centre!!! Fortunately, they are made of plastic and stone - and they look incredibly trashy! The lions are part of the pre-football world cup advertising campaign as the world cup's mascot is a lion. Everybody who is willing to keep a kitschy lion can purchase one and the money is donated to a welfare organization.
Definitely a good idea - though they could have chosen some more beautiful mascot. :-)

"Surprising city in southern Germany"
For some unknown reason, my view of München had never been very positive, though I had never visited the place. Early 2004, I went to München with my wife and two friends, basically because we did not want to spend Queen's Day at home and we could get very cheap tickets to München. We spent two days and one night that completely changed my view on the city: München is a great place to be!
Bavaria's capital

Bavaria's capital Munich (Muenchen in German) is the third-biggest city of Germany with appr. 1.3 million inhabitants. I don't know this city well as I've only been there twice, but it's quite interesting. Especially if you like museums, Munich will not disappoint you.
Here's a map of Munich.

"HB"
For sure the most famous tourist trap in Munich is the HB (Hofbräuhaus). Pity that it is closed so early, about midnight. Usually when I've visited in Munich, I've driven long periods whole the day, and after finding parking places and/or accomodation, it's very late. Sometimes I could not get inside at all, but normally possible to have a beer or two. Then I had to wait till next day opening time. But luckily there is almost all the time good atmosphere, and always full of tourists, especially Japanese ones.
"Churches"
St. Michaeliskirce and the Frauenkirche are situated in the center, just close to HB. Here is enclosed an old post card from early 60's. (The photomaker is unknown.)
Munich - step by step

Here my München page will start to grow. The town is little more than 1 and a half hour away from Kempten, so I go there sometimes for a daytrip on the weekend. So in case you are around, let me know!
Check the travelogue with some winter pics taken in and around the Englischer Garten.
