Airport to the Column at the center of Marienplatz

by bmajor98

I need to get from the Airport to the Column at the center of Marienplatz. I'd like to leave one piece of luggage at a left luggage facility on the way. I need to get there as quickly as possible to get on a tour. Would leaving the luggage at the Munich train station be most efficient? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, I tried leaving my luggage in Munich train station once. I had no problems. There were different sized compartments if I remember right, were priced differently. By the way, check on the price per day. I remember doing the same in Frankfurt and the lockers were priced on the number of hours. Hope this helps.

If you will be leaving from Munich airport, you can also leave it there, see http://www.munich-airport.de/en/consumer/aufenthalt_trans/servicecenter/gepaeck/index.jsp.
Otherwise, you can leave it at e.g. München Hbf for €5/24h, see http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/home/service/luggagestorage/index.html.
If you take line S1 from the airport to Marienplatz (destination: Ostbahnhof), it stops at Hbf so you could leave your luggage there before proceeding (total journey time to Marienplatz without stopping off, 48 mins); if you take line S8, it stops first at Ostbahnhof (total journey time without stopping off, 38 mins) so you would leave it there instead; this would be the quicker option as long, as course, as this S-Bahn train comes first.

Maybe a small addition to gaminari's mail:
In both cases (coming into Munich via Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) and coming into Munich via Ostbahnhof), after having put your luggage into storage, you can simply hop on the next S-Bahn going towards city centre (Marienplatz). They leave every 2 Minutes at both stations.

Best,
Glissi

Der Starnberger See

by tomas3000

Starnberg, which is situated on the 48th degree of latitude southwest of Munich (Germany) was first named "Starnbergk" in 1226. Although it has been inhabited since then it gained it's status as municipality only in 1912. For the 21650 inhabitants (30.6.2000) and for many tourists, there are numerous possibilities for relaxation, sport or culture. There is a beautiful promenade, a native country museum and the castle of Starnberg. One can make a steamboat trip on the "Starnberger Lake" or hike to the place where King Ludwig II lost his life in the lake. There a wooden cross at the lakeshore of "Berg" reminds of the tragedy. Munich is only half an hour away with the suburban train.
