Great choice of hostel for a first timer. Big lockers, comfy bunk beds and decent sized rooms. Excellent heaters!
Showers were bit annoying with a 15 sec push button but the water was hot. No kitchen or breakfast but sheets were included.
Would recommend this hostel, close to train station and other attractions in Munich. I booked for one night at this hostel during Oktoberfest, because that was all that was left open to book. However, I managed to extend my stay day after day. I think single female travellers can find beds quite easily, as there is usually one bed to be had somewhere. (I've known men to be turned away from other hostels in Italy and other places, I guess because they assume men can better take care of themselves if forced to crash at the train station).
The location couldn't be more convenient - just one block behind the Hauptbahnhof and walking distance from the main shopping street and Oktoberfest.
I slept in a 12-bed mixed dorm room and a 4-bed room during my stay, and they were both very clean and safe. I thought a 12-bed dorm would be awful, but I found that people respected your privacy, but were still very friendly. The 4-bed room was single-sex. I didn't try the breakfast here, as the Hauptbahnhof has loads of pastries and such to nibble on, but the facilities looked large and friendly. The rooms had lockers , though I don't really remember much about locking them (if I used my own lock or if it had its own). In any case, I didn't worry about theft.
In general, this hostel was large and slightly impersonal, but a safe and comfortable base for exploring Munich. The prices were a little high for me (€20-25), but that may have been due to Oktoberfest. Leave a Comment

Good located near the Hauptbahnhof (Munich central station).
Very simple rooms. If you don't book a room with toilet&shower, you have to use the common showers, which are quite Spartan (no separated, lockeable showerboxes). Leave a Comment

I stayed at the 4You Hostel from March 14-17th, 2005.
Lets start with the local. 3 min. tops from the main train station. 3 min. tops from the EasyInternetCafe. 10 min. from the New Town Hall (Neurathaus).
The beds are comfy and the rooms spacious. The only problem being the ladders to the bunks which can lift up and off the beds.
The showers are nice and hot but you have to keep hitting the button for the water after it shuts off automatically after about 30 seconds.
The elevator is nice and the laundry is affordable. You need to get tokens to work it from the front desk.
The breakfast is pretty good as well with a decent selection of cold cuts, cheese, spreads and cereal and hot chocolate.
The lobby has a couple vending machines stocked with beer and other consumables and down the hallway next to the desk is a phone you can use for international calls. You will need at least .05 cents to use it though.
I had the misfortune of having my last night at the hostel (St. Patricks Day) scarred by a woman with severe mental problems who kept running down the hallway (floor 2, look for the dents in the elevator doors) and smacking her head on the wall full speed.
Don't worry, I can assure you that the doors have very good locks.
Lets review: Great local, good showers, good breakfast, hot chocolate, comfy beds. Enough said.
