The Tent Munich: Make sure you have a sleeping bag

The tent facilities are open generaly from the beginning of June to the beginning of September. During the Octoberfest prices soar in the hotels. The-Tent is a perfect solution if you find yourself in a bind for a room or just want to save some money. If you don't have a sleeping bag they have some for rent. As a word of warning, September is normally warm but freezing temperatures are not uncommon.... as we found out :)

With public transportation (MVV) you can reach the tent without transfer from the central station in only 13 minutes.

Just take the Tram number 17 direction "AMALIENBURGSTRASSE" and get off at "BOTANISCHER GARTEN".

From there its just 500 meters - just follow the signs .

The "17" is a night line which means it runs all night long and offers the best connection

The reception desk is open 24h

    (break: 10.30-11.30 a.m. and 5.30-6.30 p.m.)

    check-In: from 4.30 p.m. all night long until 10.30 a.m.

Hotel Andechser Hof: Idyllic Lakeside Setting

  • The Andechser Hof - Munich
    The Andechser Hof
    by travelfrosch
After over a decade, I finally was able to re-visit this hotel. Now a "3-Star Superior" hotel, the Andechser Hof is ideal for those who want to stay away from the bustle of Munich. The hotel, which has 24 rooms and a full-service restaurant, is situated just 2 blocks from the Ammersee, and right across the street from the Herrsching S-Bahn stop. This year (2007), we were fortunate enough to get a nice double room on the top floor. The one disadvantage of the high room is the elevator does not go up to it, so you'll have to climb a flight of stairs. No problem for us.

The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with views overlooking the S-Bahn station. The new trains are so quiet, you can barely hear them at all... but there is a little noise from the street associated with the station pub that fills with some drunks staggering down from Kloster Andechs after it closes.

A nice buffet breakfast is served in the hotel's entry area. A minor nitpick was the automatic coffee machine that served stale and somewhat burned-tasting brew. On the plus side, there's a pleasant sitting room, library, and game area on the mezzanine. You're welcome to bring your mediocre java (or other beverage) up here to relax awhile.

    - Across the street from the S-Bahn station
    - Very close to the Ammersee
    - Excellent access to the Kloster Andechs walking trail and/or shuttle bus

Nice people will welcome you at Ibis hotel.
this hotel is only a two stars hotel, but it's very nice, clean and modern.
The rooms are big and well kept as the bathroom too.
    Very closed to U-bahn station.

I paid about 40 EUR with breakfast.

Especially during Oktoberfest plenty of young people are searching for a cheap hostel...

...BUT Munich is NO cheap place & especially during Oktoberfest it is hard to find an accomodation ...

Please reserve your rooms as soon as possible and as long in advance as possible, when you intend to stay at Oktoberfest on a Friday & Saturday night and also in the night of october 2nd ( because Oct. 3rd is Germany's national holiday !)

This is a very cute little hotel right at Viktualienmarkt, one of the lovliest buildings in this area, overlooking Europe's most beautiful fresh produce market. Which better location could you want?
The only noise likely to hear, is the clanging of next door's church bells.

K&K Am Harras Hotel: Great staff/ Free internet    Check Rates

  • Great staff. Great location. The hotel is outside of the main city center, but the elevator to the U-Bahn is just outside the front door. Everyone on the staff spoke English and were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. Two internet stations in the lobby (NO CHARGE!) I booked on line with Expedia.com but would recommend that you check the price on Expedia and then book the hotel directly through their website. I think I paid $109 per night (did not include breakfast) and felt this hotel was just as nice as the one I stayed in Amsterdam for $175. (The only difference was that the Amsterdam hotel was right in the city center.) We never walked around the area of the hotel so I don't know what restaurants etc are closeby, but you can get food right in the U-Bahn station Harras.

I was working in this hotel as night auditor.
There are several good sides and bad sides as well, when you stay in this hotel.

The hotel is situated in the 11th-13th floor of the former Olympc village of 1972.
In 1972 the building was finished within a short time, built completely by concrete.
There was a time when people thought, these houses are a good investment, but nowadays people try to get rid of them by all means or rent them.
In the whole area strong winds will occur and then you cannot walk certain ways without beeing blown away.
that is even worse in winter, when the wind is icy and the streets are frozen.

The hotel-guests will nostly not realize that, as they have a large parking in the underground, but they might get a strange feeling, when they have to walk through the spooky garage and its long streets.

  • Great choice of hostel for a first timer. Big lockers, comfy bunk beds and decent sized rooms. Excellent heaters!

Showers were bit annoying with a 15 sec push button but the water was hot. No kitchen or breakfast but sheets were included.

Would recommend this hostel, close to train station and other attractions in Munich.

Hotel Langwieder See: A good chance for wild camping

Around Langwieder See there are a few places, where you may put up your tent and spend the night.
NObody will care a lot, as the hotel does NOT own the ground and most of these places are totally hidden by trees.

Camping there is only possible late at night till maybe 08.00 a.m. , and you better put away your tent before the people from Munich arrive, using these places for swimming and sunbathing.

Simply walk around the lake - you may start at the telephone-booths at the hotel, pass by the hotel (the path does NOT belong to them) and you will get to some nice , hidden places.
Park your car on the big parking and try to get to your "camping-place" unseen...

Be aware of the fact, that the parking is used by lots of people, some of them sleeping in their cars, waiting eventually for a good chance to make money, rob you etc....
