Mariangela, Simon, Marco & I by Sarita76 I was lucky enough to be hosted by Mariangela, my Australian cousin, and her husband Simon as they were temporarily living and working in Munich. They made our holiday in Munich much better and much more interesting as they suggested places to visit and took us outside the city (it was easier without looking at a map). So, THANK YOU MARY & SIMON ! Theme: Other

In the bar at Euro Youth Hostel by barryg23 In a city where accommodation is generally quite expensive, the Euro Youth hostel, at 50 Euro per night for a double room including breakfast, was very good value. It's in a central location in a quiet street near the Hauptbahnhof. Our room was fine: we had TV, heating and washbasin, with shared toilets and showers in the corridor. The bar downstairs was a lively place and they had a happy hour from 6-9 every night. The buffet breakfast was impressive for a hostel with as much bread, cereal, coffee, juice, etc, that you want. The people staying there were mostly college/school age, though it wasn't especially noisy. Also the staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all, a good budget option for Munich.

by acemj Richie found this place right near the train station for me. The place is very basic. Nothing fancy, but everything is clean. The street has a few strip clubs on it, but it's actually fairly safe even at night. There is an internet place a block away and the Oktoberfest grounds are also very close.
The room was clean and the bathroom and shower were both down the hall. I'm not sure why the bathroom doesn't include a shower, but at 25 Euros per night, who am I to complain? | Holiday Inn Munich City Centre: Great location

This is a typical Holiday Inn, which could be anywhere in the world. But it's got good size rooms, bathrooms are not luxurious but are clean, well-finished and well equipped. Overall the hotel is clean and well-maintained and it runs efficiently. The staff were friendly, all we spoke with were fluent in English. Room rates vary enormously so check around with travel agents and with on-line hotel sites.
The most important thhing is the location. It's just a few minutes easy stroll into the historic centre of the city, Marienplatz, the town halls, museums and all the restaurants and shops in that area. One word of warning, something I haven't noticed in other hotels - there's a Euro5 charge for room service. The room service menu has the usual dishes such as salads, burgers, sandwiches. Prices range from Euro8 to 10.50...plus the Euro5 extra charge. Theme: HotelAddress: Hochstrasse 3, Munich, Germany, 81669, DEPhone: 49-89-48030

Hotels in München are often a bit on the expensive side for being affordable Germany. This meant that I had to look around a bit as costs often escalate when you need an extra bed for a child etc. At the same time, staying near central stations is a no no to my husband who loathes seedy districts, so the budget hotels there were off the list (even though we now know that München has a very calm station area for being a city). Atlanta is run by a German-Finnish couple and I must say I expected more from it. I had requested an en suite room, but we were given a room which had its own toilet, but which was in the corridor, so basically anyone could have used it even if no one seemed to do. Moreover, the toilet was leaking so it was a shoes on affair every time we went as there was a small river in there. As for the room, it was spacious and had everything we could have wanted, but the beds creaked so much that they woke our daughter up when we turned in them in our sleep! I have never heard anything like it. We were wondering what possible neighbours thought we were doing in there :))) So no, not worth the money, but if you want something near the city centre, in a quiet shopping street and away from the station area, why not. It was in no way an awful experience, more a "giggle" one. They also have a hotel called Monaco.

Bayernland Room by Krumlovgirl The accommodation people at the train station booked this one for us, and I have to admit that I was quite pleased. It's just around the corner from the train statio and about a 15 minute walk to Marienplatz. Possibly shorter, but my mom has a bad leg so it always takes us longer. The breakfast offered was standard fare, but at $20 person it was doable. Theme: HotelComparison: about average
