Staying in Munich for a while

by barbarich21

I might be getting an internship in Munich this summer that will last for 6 months. Are there any apartments that a student can afford for that time span?

You can try here
http://www.wg-gesucht.de/en/

Also ask the company you're doing the internship for help. Munich is not exactly cheap and it can be very difficult to find an affordable place to stay.
Good luck.

This is what you can see if using Goggle: http://muenchen.studenten-wohnung.de/
and http://www.studentenwohnheime-muc.de/

I'm not sure if Studentenwohnheime accept anyone doing an internship, though. But anything is worth a try, it's difficult enough in Munich.

Travel Tips for Munich

Oktoberfest during the weekends

by oriettaIT

Oktoberfest is a huge massive fair, the area is really big with wide space between the different brewerys's tent. Still, during the weekend you have to expect a big crowd. We were there during the opening weekend and, around the time of the opening ceremony, the amount of people trying to get in was just too much. It was impossible to walk and we were just pushed in any direction the crowd would go. This happened when the parade reached the fair. It was a little unconfortable and made us realize why when our bus arrived there at 7.30 am there was already a huge line of people waiting in front of each tent. They wanted to get a seat!
We didnt booked our seat ahead of time, it was way too expensive, so we ended up wondering around several tent with no luck. You have to be aware that they dont serve beer of food unless you have a seat, so we ended up leaving the fair and going to the nearest brewery in town.
When we went back to the fair in the afternoon the situation was much better.. i guess all the drunk people sleeping on the grass create some room in the tents :DDD
I still enjoyed my visit, it was a lot of fun just to watch the people around, take a look to my Munich album to see some interesting charachter!! we enjoyed our bavarian food and our beer, you just have to be aware what to expect and, if you are not confortable with crowd stay away during the most busy hour of the day.

Daytrip to Neuschwanstein

by globetrott

Neuschwanstein is one of the very top destinations of Bavaria and even Europe.
The castle was built by king Ludwig II of Bavaria, and shortly after it was finished, the kind died under strange circumstances.
He spent just 9 days inside the castle, that was opened to the public already a few days after his death, as the state of Bavaria needed a lot of money to pay for the castles of King Ludwig.

There are a lot more pics and infos on my Neuschwanstein-page !

Neuschwanstein - 6 Km east of Fuessen / 60 Km south of Munich

Chinesische Turm

by bugulma

The most well-known object in the English Garden is Chinese Tower. It is situated in the center of the park. It was built in the same period when the garden was laid out. Guidebooks say it is a popular place when people get beer but in winter times it is quite enough calm and silence.

Ozapft is !! - the start of Oktoberfest

by globetrott

On the 1st saturday of Oktoberfest, exactely at 12.00 noon the Lordmayor of Munich will tap the very 1st vat of beer by hand and will announce the opening of Oktoberfest with the words "O'ZAPFT IS" ( the vat is tapped)

none of the beer-tents is allowed to sell a single glass of beer, before this very first vat will be tapped correctely - and sometimes, especially for a newly elected Lordmayor it needed several attempts and maybe even some help and tricks in order to get the vat tapped....

Lots of TV-stations will watch this ceremony and make sure the new Lordmayor gets nervous eventually and I saw it once that he had to hit the vat 16 times before he could announce the opening of the fest...

SpVgg Unterhaching

by bonio

A trip out to the suburbs and a visit to the Generali stadion for the 3Bundesliga game between Unterhaching and Carl Zeiss Jena.
Just 9 euros to stand behind the goal on a freezing afternoon in December, the game a 1-0 win for the home side. The visitors can count themselves a little unlucky, the created many more chances than Unterhaching but lacked the ability to score any of them.
