Campsites

by rafman64

We are planning to come to Munich for Oktoberfest 2011.

Does anyone know any good camp sites which allow motor homes on-site which gives us easy access to the festival?

The campsite at Thalkirchen is a good choice cause it´s right next to the Strain that takes you to the oktoberfest venue in a few minutes.
The campsite also has a nice setting and i have really liked it the few times i have camped there.

Yes, Thalkirchen would be your best choice. But make sure that you reserve well in advance because you certainly won't be the only one who is going to do this.

Travel Tips for Munich

Give yourself plenty of time

by RioRosie

We probably made a mistake by not giving ourselves enough time. We were trying to cram too much into too little time.
Munich is a place to which we plan to return and give ourselves at least three days to soak up what the city has to offer. The fun family from Northern California and the two Canadian boys we met at the Hofbrauhaus. (See photos--if you recognize yourselves, please email me!)

FRAUENKIRCHE
The Frauenkirche...

by SirRichard

FRAUENKIRCHE
The Frauenkirche or Church of Our Lady (1648) is a landmark of the city, it appears in most of the postcards.
The church is huge but simple. Much of the original gothic interior has been destroyed or removed partially by contra-reformists. In the crypt, you will find the tombs of the Wittelsbach family, where many dukes and bisshops are buried.
If you enter, don't miss the Footprint of the Devil, in the middle of the church, where, according to the legend, the devil would have been left by the architect (Jörg von Halsbach promised the devil that no window could be seen from inside the church if he helped in the construction. After he completed the building, the architect led the devil to the middle of the church from where you could not see a single window, although all churchgoers would sit in an area where a lot of light came through the windows. The devil would have stamped his foot with so much rage that his footprint was visible in the stone floor.)

The Glockenspiel

by CandS

The famous clock in Munich...I'm sure almost every visitor to Munich sees this clock. ;) We only stopped here for a quick visit before moving on to the next place though so we didn't really get to spend much time in the square...

Fasching

by orlikins

It is like the Karneval in Cologne.
Everyone dresses up in February and gets drunk, throw confetti and glitter around Marienplatz & Viktualienmarkt and sing "Alice, Alice, Who de F*ck is Alice". People go mad, basically.
Pity I do not have any photos of it, but it was fun. Pic is from www.serve.com

Across the lake

by William1982

Notice the football pitch across the lake, the picture doesn't it justice but its there??? No idea how you play a game of football on it, considering its on a massive slope. Reckon the right and left backs have to do a bit of swimming???
