Started bad but got better !!!

On arrival, we were allocated a room on 5th floor, which was not a good one - strange shape, rather small, with little space to put things on. The bathroom was rather dark, with toilet oddly placed. Needless to say, we were not happy, especially as we expected a double bed but got two singles!
No alternatives for that night but next day we got a transfer to a much nicer 2nd floor room - normal shape, desk surfaces, larger bathroom with better lighting - much happier! (tho' still two single beds - oh well, this was our 28th wedding anniversary!!!)
The breakfast was superb! Large choice from buffet, excellent bread, cheese, meats etc, all frequently replenished - I had to be restrained from too frequent top-ups, for the sake of my figure.

Unique Quality: That breakfast, as above - it may not be unique but it's a good example of a proper Continental brek!

The hotel location is excellent, within an easy walk from the main rail station, then easy walking into the City centre, along nearby shopping roads.

Not Bad

$80 Euro/night/Double Bed. This was quite a decent hotel, the service was polite and gracious. The breakfast was filling and fresh. The location is outstanding, very close to the Sendlinger Tor U-Bahn stop and a short 10 minute walk to Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, etc. Considering the options in the rest of the city we were very pleased and would likely stay here again. This location would be phenomenal for Oktoberfest.

Unique Quality: Small room (403), on the road. The road is quite quiet but there were people in the park across the street into the wee hours of the morning. Kept hearing bottle caps bounce on the pavement. Typical German bathroom, very small and efficient. The elevator is very slow, don't use it unless it is already on your floor.

Herzog Wilhelm

Right next to Sendlinger Tor, good city centre location and easy Ubahn access. Clean rooms and a good breakfast included what more do you need?

Munich Directions

I will be traveling from the Munich airport to my hotel on Herzog-Wilhelm Strasse in Munich. Does anyone have a recommendation for a website (such as mapquest) for directions in Germany? Plus, what would I enter for my starting location for the Munich aiport? Thanks!!!

You can give at www.viamichelin.com "Flughafen Muenchen" as address (no city, as the airport is strictly seen not in Munich, but in Oberding). Than select out of the given list in the next step " D - Bayern - Oberding : München-F.J. Strauss Flughafen"

Herzog-Wilhelm-Strasse in Munich is really central. To drive there from the airport is nonsense. If you need a car when leaving Munich to XY you can rent one at the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). That's around the corner. Here a page which lists the rental companies having branches there.

The only site you need is www.msn.com, then click on "Maps & Direction" near the top. The directions are easy to read and right on. We used MSN for driving through Bavaria, from Munich to Austria (and around) and also from Paris to a castle just outside of Reims, along with stops at Neuschwanstein, Bad Reichenhall and some other out of the way places. Just an example, the castle we stayed in in France was located off a dirt road and it showed up as "make right onto local road" but the distance from the last turn was dead accurate, could have made the turn blindfolded! I am a HUGE fan of the MSN directions, Mapquest is horrible as is Google.

Good luck, and have fun driving, the most beautiful drive(s) we have ever taken. If you have any qusetions, please ask, would love to be of assistance!

Hey forgot, when you get to MSN maps & directions type in F.J. Strauss Airport in the top line and Munich, Germany in the lower line. Then you can use that for your starting point.
