GLOCKENSPIEL
by Helga67
Don't miss the Glockenspiel (Carillon).
Every day at 11 am, 12 am and 5 pm, you can watch the Glockenspiel in the 80m-high tower of the Neues Rathaus. It displays two events that happened on this spot: the marriage of Wilhelm V to Renata von Lothringen in 1568, and the first Schäfflertanz (coopers' dance) of 1517, intended to cheer people up during the plague. This dance is still held every seven years, next in 2005.
3-D Movie Theatre “Imax” on the Museum’s Island
by claudia1975
If you visit Munich and are even only slightly interested in natural sciences, technics or related fields, then a visit to the German Museum (Germany’s largest museum and the biggest of its kind in Europe with exhibitions on cars, ships, trains, planes, physics, chemistry, mining, manufactoring, electricity, architecture etc etc) is an absolute MUST.
However, most people do not know that there is more on the small “Museum’s Island” in the river Isar than only the German Museum. Right in front of the German museum there is an Imax theatre featuring 3-D movies and typical Imax productions. It shows movies every day and the variety ranges from Insects 3D to Himalaya or Deep Sea expeditions, Grand Canyon Explorations, Phantasy Worlds, a tour through the inside of the human body or educational technical movies. Furthermore they run spectacular Laser Shows adjusted to different kinds of music – be it “Queen” or “Genesis” or classical music. A visit to the Imax is fun – not only with children. URL:

Entrance fees between 5 and 10 Euro
The Imax 3D movie theatre is located on the Museum’s Island in the Isar River right next to the German museum. For detailed directions to the German Museum see www.stadtplan.de.
Chiemsee
by Sharrie
Go on a day excursion to CHIEMSEE ('Bavarian Sea') where the beautiful SCHLOSS HERRENCHIEMSEE is situated! This is Ludwig II's most ambitious palace, a replica of Versailles. However, only the central wing of the building was completed as he was dethroned shortly. Another long story...
A traditional animal
by sabsi
A Wolpertinger is a crossing of several Bavarian animals (like a rabbit with deer horns) which only exist in people's minds. You can only hunt them at night, preferable full moon nights.
Here's one I found. Unfortunately the poor thing ended up in a tourist shop in Kaufinger Straße.
Skiing without car
by einokj
If you want to go skiing but don't have a car (and even if you have one), there are couple of rather good alternatives: First, DB has either some combination tickets including the trip and the skipass (at least to Zugspitze and to Oberstdorf) or cheap schönes wochenende- ticket (only German areas, however). Besides that, some sport stores offer ski trips by bus which are really cheap. At least sport scheck (www.sportscheck.de).
