Munich at April

by adamparhi

Hi,

Does anyone know how the weather in the middle of April at Munich and Salzburg is? Is it still cold and rainy?

And another question – do you recommend on day trip to Innsbruck from Munich? And if so, what is the cheapest way to get there?

Thanks,
Adam

No-one can tell you what the weather will be like so far in advance.

Cold and rainy is possible, as is warm and sunny.

The climate tables here will give you a rough idea for Munich:

Salzburg:

Don't know about the cheapest way to Innsbruck, but you can find train times, details and fares in English here:

Takes around 2 hours, one-way fare 30+ euro.

Weather should not be particularly bad in April - June. Temperatures should be, supposing an average year, around 20Cº. Weather can change fast from absolutely glorious to dark and rainy in this area, so have some basic weatherproof clothing (waterproof jacket, etc) with you just in case.

An average of 20C in mid-April Germany seems a bit optimistic.

It wasn't that when I visited in July (admittedly a little further north than Munich)...some days were very warm, some were not.

A German saying "April, April - macht was er will". Meaning april is doing what it likes to. So from hot t-shirt and shorts weather to snowy weather - everything is possible. Rain would be more likely then the extremes mentioned above...
Have a great stay!
Chris.

Travel Tips for Munich

Marienplatz

by bonio

I guess that one place that every visitor to Munich goes to is the Marienplatz. It's very busy, right in the centre of the city, chances are you'll pass through if you're in town any length of time. Must see the Rathaus. U Bahn- Marienplatz
Throughout December home of a Christmas market.

See Marienplatz with its thousands of tourists (joke), shops (!!!!) and the city hall. Every day at 2pm and 5pm there´s the 'Glockenspiel' at the city hall which rughly can be described as some tiny puppies dancing and making music... :-)

Beer

by TinyTuck

Bavarians drink "Weißbier" (white beer), and they drink it liter-wise! A liter of beer is called "Mass" (pronounce: Maas). You can also order half a mass, but that's "socially inacceptable", unless maybe you are a small female... Liters of beer are already ordered quite early in the day. Before taking the first sip you gotta clink glasses and say "Prost"!
A famous non-alcoholic beverage is "Spezi" (a mix of coke and limonade). I'd say it's less embarrasing to order this one than a half Mass! (People will think that you have to drive)... ;-)

Packing...

by CandS

Take a good backpack so you don't have to worry too much about lugging your bags around... A daypack is useful for day trips too... Good walking shoes are a good idea...especially if you plan to do most travelling on foot... Don't forget to bring your drinking shoes and strong stomach if you're going to the Oktoberfest! :)

Nymphenburg

by Angelamtp1

Check out Nymphenburg castle it's in a beautiful, (and if your looking for property to buy) semi expensive part of town, about 10 minutes from the center by car. In the summer there is a cafe Schlosscafé Palmenhaus
you can sit outside and watch people, or swans, yes, lots of them around. In the winter, (for me, it was march) a little too cold to sit outside
