What is the name of the area that the Oktoberfest is in??

by ontariokaren

I am in the very beginning stages of researching this area. I'd like to know this for when I am reading about certain surrounding areas. Many thanks.

Theresienwiese is an open space in the Munich borough of Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt. It serves as the official ground of the Munich Oktoberfest.

hmm, I think you mean 'region', right?

It's Bayern or Bavaria.
You can see that when you search for Munich on the Forums or Travel Guides.
At the top of each page you see:

Forums » Europe» Germany» Bavaria» Munich

Thank you to both !! Yes it was helpful. I'm looking for a hotel for Sept 22 and 23. I may post back to get a recommendation of proximity (the hotel) to Oktoberfest....however I understand even if it's 15 or min away, the train transportation is efficient ! Many thanks ! This is a great forum for first time travellers (and others !!)

Travel Tips for Munich

Panoramic tour of München

Another marvel is the illustrious architecture spread out across this historic land. Many of the buildings used during World War II are well preserved, serving as a great reminder to the horrors that any war unleashes upon mankind. Getting behind the wheel of the Benz to explore this vast landscape via winding mountain roads and the freedoms found along its illustrious Autobahn...Autobahn...Autobahn.

English Movies and Breakfast

by claudia1975

The movie theatre “Cinnema” is located at the intersection of Pappenheimer Street and Nymphenburger Street. Special about this movie theatre is that they show movies in English. On Sunday mornings at 10:30 they have something called movie brunch. ( Matinee with continental breakfast:) For 7 Euro you can see an English movie and feast yourself on a breakfast buffet they have in the lobby. It is then allowed to take hot coffe, hot chocolate, cakes and pastries into the movie theatre also. The Cinema is a nice treat to start a cloudy Sunday and to enjoy a good movie with other international people. The extremely infromative website:

http://www.cinema-muenchen.com/englisch/

gives details on what they are currently playing, entrance fees, opening times and how to get there including a good map.

This movie theatre is really worth a visit!

Sitting alone is not an option!

by Gemiti

When you're going to a restaurant in Germany and especially Bavaria and you sit on a table you might not sit there alone for long. It's common in Germany that two seperate groups share their table. So don't act angry or complain if somebody is seated or sits at you're table. See it as chance to meet new people. It's especially common in Beergardens, traditional Bavarian restaurants and beerhalls and at the Oktoberfest.

In Munich: Alter Südlicher Friedhof

by sabsi

This is one of Munich's oldest graveyards which was used until 50 years ago. It was built in 1563 and back then it was used for the victims of the black death.

Inside huge brick walls you will find old graves, beautiful statues, graves of famous people (Spitzweg, Ohm, Klenze etc) and a peaceful walking path around the cemetary.

Unfortunately the paths through the middle of the graveyard were closed off by a fence when we were here. Like this you can only have a look from the distance. However, there were signs saying that one day those paths will be open again. They just need some time to renovate the graves which are falling apart.

The graveyard is in Thalkirchnerstraße in Munich's Isarvorstadt.
