Can you recomend a $100 or less priced Hotel near Munich Airport?

by dpla

I and my wife are arriving Munich 10AM on Oct 2, 2010 and depart next morning 7.30AM.
Because of the Octfest, hotels in the city are way overpriced and beyond our budget. We were thinking of staying at an Airport hotel and going into the city during the day via a train or shuttle bus and see the festivaties, comeback to the hotel in the evening and conveniently take the flight next morning. Do you know of any hotels which are connected to the Airport with a shuttle service and also near transportation to the city center and are less than $100 a day?? Your valued input is really appreciated. Thanks.

Take a look at www.booking.com they offer decent rates and may be able to solve your problem.

That would be 75 Euro for a double-room near the airport during Oktoberfest ... quite a task.

Open Google Earth and follow the two S-Bahn lines (S1, S8) from the airport to downtown Munich and check the hotels and pensions Google Earth shows.
You'll probably have more luck with the S1, but please note that the S1 is a two-fold-traction. Only one unit goes to the airport.

You can use HRS
http://www.hrs.com/
and give as destination "MUC" (for: München Airport F.J. STRAUSS (MUC))

It is only possible to find something in commuting distance (e.g. Erding) in the price range of EUR 100-120 for this date. The cheaper ones are too far from the airport. You would need a taxi or a rental car to get there in time. Which makes them in the end not cheaper.

If you don't find anything through the website mentioned in the posts above, contact the tourist information in Munich directly. Sometimes they can work wonders, and that's what you'll need, I'm afraid.
I was looking a hotels in Munich in the week after Oktoberfest and noticed the big difference in rates.

Travel Tips for Munich

Seehaus Beirgarten

by Angelamtp1

Seehaus Beergarden in Spring on the lake, Englishiergarten....nice crowd, very busy around 6pm...... beautiful trees, (is this getting redundant?) There is an indoor restaraunt like most beergardens, really good food. Seehaus and Osterwald gardens are my favorite, though I have not been to all the wonderful gardens in Munchen, I would love to do a vacation simply on getting drunk in the beautifull beergardens of Munchen...maybe I will :)

Munich Tip

One day while we were at the Oktoberfest we were sitting at a table right next to the stage where a German band was playing. During their break I walked on stage to make friends. When they were ready to play again and the tamborine player was not back yet, they let me play with them and I have a picture to prove it!

Lake Chiemsee with its stunning beauty peacfully dozes, surrounded by Alps. Herrenchiemsee castle by king Ludwig II is built on one of its islands. Gallery of art on the Zugspitze's summit - where art meets nature!

Vogelpfeiffer (bird imitators)

by globetrott

This is the stand of "Münchner Vogelpfeiffer" ( bird imitators )
It is another funny place to go on Oktoberfest and listen to the stories of these 2 men , who are trying to sell small pieces of something that you put under your tongue in order to imitate bird-voices.
I bought it ( for 2,5 Euros you get 2 of them ) and used it according to the explanations - BUT it did not work !! :-((
But I also saw children beeing able to do it right away !!

But once again, the best part of the Vogelpfeiffer is the small show they are performing, the jokes, the bird-whistling they are doing, while talking, their dresses etc.

Of course it is best, when you are able to understand german and also Bavarian, but I am sure it is funny for foreigners, too.

In 2003 they had their stand close to the Bavaria sculpture, just opposite of the Armbrustschützen-tent .

Schloss Neuschwanstein

by Maximilian21

Schloss Neuschwanstein is one of those places that you have to slap yourself in order to determine that your not dreaming.
It is literally something of a failry tale and was the brain child of King Ludwid 2. Ludwig withdrew into a world where he could realize his childhood fantasies - a world reflected in the operatic works of Wagner; a world which gave birth of Neuschwanstein.

built in the neo-late romanesque style.
With its turrets and mock-medievalism, its interior styles ranging from Byzantine through Romanesque to Gothic its a real fairy-tale fantasy come true.

The surrounding of the castle are truly unbelievable and it is a must should you visit bavaria.
