A relatively inexpensive and good place to stay.

The hotel is tucked in a side street along the main road (Landsberger Straße) leading to the city centre. It is relatively quiet, and very clean and comfortable. The toilet and bath is sufficient and clean, hot water with head & body shampoo is provided. In the room I stayed, there is a small desk and a chair, a big wardrobe, a double bed, telephone, bed light, and a TV (the only English channel is a movie channel that screens about 4 new releases). The floor is tiled and not carpeted, so it could be cold during winter and autumn. Heating is via a radiator. One thing I appreciate a lot is the free wireless internet access available in the room (with a password provided at the reception). The staff is skeletal but friendly and efficient.

There are several convenient stores within walking distance. This includes a bakery and meal places. Out on the main road which is Landsberger Straße, the Augustiner Brewery is 5 minutes walk away, at the side of the this brewery is a very good dining hall or bierhalle (that says it all), serving very good German and also Bavarian fare, with all sorts of Augustiner Beer, of course.

It is easy to connect to the airport from this place. It is a 15-minute casual walk (dragging your wheeled luggage) to the Hackerbrucke station where the S-bahn S1 or S8 will bring you to and fro the airport, at the cost of 9.20 euro, single trip (April 2009).

And walking 2 minutes to the main road, Landsberger Straße, is a tram strop with line 18 and 19, bringing you to the city centre, just to the side of Marienplatz, the central tourist attraction of Munich.

I paid 45 euro for one Saturday night. Breakfast was extra, but one could always go to a nearby bakery for something in the morning. I was quite happy with it.

Unique Quality: Free wireless internet access is not available in every hotel in Munich, so I am very pleased with this service. The hotel is not new, but it is still very clean and the bed is very comfortable.

Reasonable Budget Hotel

Was a typical 2 Star small hotel. There are hundreds of them very much of the same standard in Munich.

Upsides:

- OK size and clean rooms and bathrooms.
- Good breakfast (7-10)
- Friendly enough staff.

Downsides:
- hard to get a coffee outside of the breakfast times.
- bar is definitely not 24 hrs.
- just a bit too far out of the City Centre - 30 min. walk for example to Marienplatz (or 7.5 Euros if you use a taxi)
- web site deceiving - the bar area consists of just 3 bar stools at the rear end of the lobby.

Unique Quality: A little far from the Main City Centre, but an excellent location if you are going to Oktoberfest!

Oh and they offer a shuttle service with their private van - to Hotel guests only.
If you e-mail them your flight details they will collect you from your arrival gate and take you to hotel for 45 Euros - a normal taxi from the airport may cost 50-60 Euros.

Don't bother though, use the S-Train (No. 1 or 8) directly from the airport to Hackerbrucke stop which costs 8.5 Euros, Kurpfalz is just a 5-10 minute walk from there. Very easy.

Worst hotel I've stayed at in europe

I would not recomend this hotel. The staff was not very friendly. There were hairs in the bed and the sheets were never changed while we were there for 7 nights. There was dust in places that should have been cleaned everyday. The walls have no insulation in them so you can hear EVERYTHING in the other rooms. The rooms are tiny and the only mirror in the place is one in the tiny bathroom above the sink about face high. When we ran out of toilet paper the maid threw the empty roll away but failed to replace it with a fresh roll so we had to go to the desk and ask for some!

Unique Quality: The only good thing about this hotel was breakfast. They don't start until 7:00 though so if you have to leave early you leave hungry.

Accomodation Choice/Recommendation

by ellage

Hi,

I will be visiting Munich in end May and I have narrowed down to 3 choices of hostel/hotels (due to price considerations!)

1. 4u munchen HOSTEL (not the hotel!)
2. Easy Palace Station HOTEL (not the hostel!)
3. Hotel Kurpfalz

They are all under 29 euros although I would prefer one with ensuite. Has anyone stayed in these hotels/hostels before? If so, how are they? Which do you recommend?

Alternatively, does anyone know any nice hotel/hostel that is close to the train station, is CHEAP (important for a poor student like me!) that has a twin/double private ensuite room?

Haha! Does that sound like asking too much? *sheepish grin*I really can't help it! I'm on a tight budget! :(

Please help! Thanks!
