getting to the airport by public transport

How can I get from Nordbad to the airport by public transport?

Re: getting to the airport by public transport

There are trams and suburban trains. You'll have to change at least once.

For detailed info have a look at the website of Munichs public transport system:

Travel Tips for Munich

Weird Taxidermy Museum

by roadnottaken

The weird museum of stuffed animals (Deutsches Jagd- und Fischereimuseum) on Neuhauserstr. just off Marienplatz. Just don't approach it as a serious museum ... because the taxidermists apprently didn't. Make sure you pay attention to the animals' expressions. You will either get non-stop fits of laughter or nightmares. This place is positively freakY!

Oktoberfest parade

by jayhawk2000

On the morning of the first Sunday of Oktoberfest you can see a grand parade march through the city out to the Theresienwiese grounds (or Festwiese as it's known during the beerfest).

I'm told about 7,000 people take part in the procession, most dressed in traditional costumes and marching along to bands. The breweries sponsor decorated carts pulled by great drayhorses. Pulling up the rear is array of livestock...thoroughbreds, oxen, even goats.

It's a colourful and noisy display of ribbons, flags, harvest garlands and non-stop yodelling. Altogether it lasts about two or three hours, but unless you have a seat in one of the stands along the way you might find that after an hour you've seen enough troupes of riflemen in historical suede shorts to last you a lifetime.

HOFBRÄUHAUS: between Maximilianstr. and Marienplatz!
Here You find a lot of tourists and real Bavarian also: at evening they sit in groups or silent alone and drink one beer and the next....they are directly, friendly and speak Bavarian!!

GEMA

by Nemorino

This large horn sculpture is located in the open courtyard between the Gasteig and its next-door neighbor the GEMA, which is the oldest and best-known authors' society in Germany.

The abbreviation GEMA stands for Gesellschaft fuer musikalische Auffuehrungs- und mechanische Vervielfaeltigungsrechte, which means "Society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights".

In other words, they collect royalty payments from people who want to use copyrighted songs, music and texts for commercial purposes, and pass this money on to the composers, lyricists and music publishers. So their function is similar to that of ASCAP or BMI in the United States.

I have always had warm feelings for the GEMA ever since I received a fluke payment of DM 1.74 (that would be EUR 0.89 in today's money) from them about twenty-five years ago. I appreciated the gesture, but it's a good thing I'm not dependent on them to make my living.
