    A long weekend in Munich

I stayed at this hotel when I visited our new Munich office. It is very traditional and fairly comfortable. Sadly, I had a ground floor room and it was rather dark.

Directions: short walk from Karl-Weber Platz

Munich Oktoberfest 2010

by jetstreamsurfer

Looking to see if anyone has any oktobefest beer table tickets available for opening weekend of Sept 18th? Looking for 2 tkts for either the 18th or 19th...

You don't need tickets to go and sit at a table, if you're just two people. Just go early. If the weather is nice, you can sit outside in a beergarden, which is what I think is much better anyway.
The bigger question is if you have got accomodation yet.If not, this will be the harder problem.

Thanks! We are going to go as early as 7am...that seems to be the consensus among many forums...I do have accommodations...I booked them back in March...since I knew they would be difficult to come by at last minute and very expensive!

Good luck with the weather. I like Oktoberfest in sunshine, up to early afternoon, then it gets too crowded for me and too many people are drunk.
Enjoy you stay.

Travel Tips for Munich

Look for this when you arrive

Your hotel lobby may have it - Mike's Bikes for sure will. It's the indispendible portable guide to Munich called IN YOUR POCKET.

Priced at 3 euros it's a treasure trove of local information and area maps.

E-mail them and you may be able to order a copy before you leave home.

Dachau. Concentration...

Dachau. Concentration camp...
PLEASE... never never forget men's madness...

i wrote a little poem after visiting dachau...

Qui il vento è spirito

che anima le foglie.

Le ceneri volteggiano

da terra ...

Qui il vento è ghiaccio

che screpola la pelle,

sgretola le ossa ...

Qui il vento è testimone

di un pianto disperato,

che scappa tra caserme,

ammucchiate di fantasmi

spogliati di nome,

soffocati da numeri ...

lenzuoli bucati.

Qui il vento è follia

è la suprema fobia degli uomini

volenterosi di gloria ...

Qui il vento ora è custode

della memoria,

ora è l'unico lamento

che sfila tra alberi

Qui ora è tutto tranquillo ...

Hofgarten - the perfect green...

by barcodex

Hofgarten - the perfect green park in the centre of Munich, very close to Residenz, Marienplatz and other attractions - seemed a nice quiet place for me. I was there in 8 am, when nobody except rare sleeping homeless people, were there. I liked it a lot. This view was so breathtaking, that I even risked to put it on the film. As always, photo is just a grey 2D copy of truth.

Pay your respect to Rudi before eating him

by globetrott

In "Ochsenbraterei" you may watch a whole ox beeing roasted on a huge spear...

Not far from the counter where you may buy a roll with roasted meat of the ox for 4,50 Euros.

When you click on my picture, you may read that Rudi was already the 46th ox , having been roasted during that Oktoberfest and these 11 Zentner are about 550 Kg.
All of these oxen grew up at the same farm in the outskirts of Munich in Ismaning.
They had a happy life, were feeded only with the best food, had a great meadow to fool around...

...untill Oktoberfest ;-)

Well Rudi, THAT was it ... tasted really great !!

This huge complex of clubs, bars and eateries is a veritable Disneyland for clubbers, and it has a little something for everyone. Take U-Bahn U5 to Ostbahnhof and exit at the rear to reach the venues at (J-4) Grafingerstraße 6. There is plenty of parking space available on-site.
