Will be arriving at the airport in early April just after midnight. Will the Strassenbahn still be running to the Hauptbahnhof? Would it be easier to book a private transfer and if so , how much might it be?

The S-Bahn trains will still run.
Private transfer will be the most expensive option. Than rather use one of the taxis. They are always available. EUR 60-70 to Munich (Munich Airport is not exactly close to the city).

Das Airport-City-Day-Ticket erhalten Sie an den Automaten im Flughafen. Wählen Sie dazu am Bildschirm
rechts erst "MVV Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund" und dann "Airport-City-Day-Ticket" aus. Vom Flughafen
München führen die Linien S1 und S8 in die Innenstadt. Sie fahren abwechselnd alle 10 Minuten - die S1 über
den Münchner Westen, die S8 über den Münchner Osten. Eine Fahrt dauert etwa 35 Minuten.

The Airport-City-Day-Ticket Single/Partner are nothing else than the MVV partner day tickets for the whole MVV network.
Single trip Munich Airport to Munich is EUR 9,60.
Day ticket for one person is EUR 10,40.
Partner day ticket (2-5 persons) is EUR 18,80 (thus less than 2 singles).

Bavaria owes its great tourist appeal to both its rich cultural and historical heritage as well as the spectacular natural beauty. The Alps with the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak +- 3000 meters.
Make a day trip to Fussen and then visit the Neuschwanstein Castle... Make sure you go on a tour inside, it's fantastic! We caught a horse and cart up to the top of the mountain rather than walking, it was a nice trip up, and then after our tour we walked around one of the hiking tracks near by.
In Munich beer is the universal language.
You find that you can speak much better German after 4-5 liters of beer. ;^)
Anything is possible. 60 years ago my grandfather was bombing the Germans - loading B-17's in England. Now I sit in a tent with 5,000 of them, at a table, and sing drinking songs. We tell each other how much we enjoy each other's country and people. Maybe there is hope in the Balkans ...
For Munich you should bring posh clothes with you if you want to go out there. The "Schickeria" in Munich has the reputation to be really dressed up and if you wear the wrong clothes it's possible that they won't let you in the club.
But of course there are also a few locations where you can go to in casual clothes. Munich is close to the Alps. So if you plan to go skiing, don't forget warm clothes. The German weather is always good for surprises. It can be very cold and rainy in the summertime but it's also possible that you can wear t-shirt and shorts in April or May. So don't forget your umbrella and at least one warm pullover and one pair of long trousers (or buy it in Germany in case you need it).
Munich weather in summer usually can be very hot and very cold in winter so don't forget clothes for this kind of weather.
Dachau was one of Germany largest concentration camp. It has been turned into a museum that exhibits it´s history .
Dachau was the first concentration camp and over 200.000 people were sent there, of wich 30.000 died. The exhibition is shocking, to say the least.
The entrance is free but I would recommend hiring a radio guide.
