Where to stay in Munich
Hello,i am going to the beer festival in September in Munich, should i stay in the city centre and travel to the festival ? is it far ? or should i stay somewhere near the festival ? also could you advise me on a nice hotel.

Hi,
the place where Oktoberfest is is very near the city centre (something like 2-3 stops by public transport). If you want to avoid crowds of drunken people in front of your hotel I would suggest you search for a hotel in the city centre and take the subway or S-Bahn to the "Wiesn".
For hotels, I would look on www.hrs.de. They have a great choice and good prices.

during the Octoberfest, if you find ANY hotel in Munich you can be grateful. Unfortunately unless you book 2 years in advance you won't be able to choose the location.
On the other hand, it hardly matters where you stay in Munich - as long as it is near a subway or tram line you won't have any problem to get to the Octoberfest. :-)

I just checked hrs.de for late September. There is still a very good choice available, most of the hotels are a bit outside though. You should probably book soon, otherwise only the very far or very expensive options will be left!

I have stayed in a holiday apartment at Starnberg, half an hour out of Munich centre, and can recommend it , there is a website for Ferienwohnung Oberfeld, there are 2 flats, I have the smaller one as I,m on my own, which I find perfectly adequate, the other is quite a lot larger. The flat is very clean, well equipped, and approx. 1 km from the Starnberg railway (s-bahn) station. Starnberg is a beautiful small town on a lake and everything such as supermarkets etc are easy walking distance. The owner of the flats speaks English so you could email him, he and his family live upstairs and the flats are on ground level. I get a taxi there from the Starnberg station as it,s up a bit of a hill, not fun with a case, but otherwise walk. There are always taxis outside the station. The s-bahn you need is S6 direction Tutzing from the main Munich railway station.
