Nice, small hotel near Oktoberfest grounds

This is a wonderful little hotel on a very quiet residential street very near the Oktoberfest site. The staff is pleasant and cordial and the rooms are quite comfortable. Prices are reasonable during the low seasons but they are very adept to taking advantage of particular times of the year when demand increases. Breakfast is included with the room rate and is adequate.

Unique Quality: Parking is free. There are spaces on the property but we always found some right on the street in front of the hotel. The location is in a residential area and is very quiet. They provide bicycles for guests free of charge.

Hotel Uhland Munich

Small. clean hotel, free Wi-Fi connection, friendly English-speaking staff, reasonable rates. E-mail request was answered quickly. What else do you need from a hotel? The best place to stay in Munich.

Munich's nicest hotel

A friend and I stayed at the Uhland during 3 days of Oktoberfest, and added 2 more days to explore more of Munich. We totally agree with all of the glowing recommendations for this family-run hotel. It is quiet, clean, on a lovely street next to Theresienwiese (Oktoberfest site), about 3 blocks from the U-bahn. Convenient travel to anywhere in Munich.
Breakfast is served in a small homelike dining room (note the etched green glass artwork on the inside wall); there is a computer for internet access in the small library area. The cost of use is the price of a phone call; phone calls from the room are inexpensive- no surcharges. Hospitable and helpful staff.

An FYI - if you plan on an Oktoberfest visit, the prices will be about double the usual cost, and you must pay by bank check (in euros) in advance. A pain, but they want to lock in reservations so as to avoid last minute changes and vacancies.

Wonderful Hotel

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights 9/2-9/5/05 and were very pleased with the hotel, staff and the quiet location. We had a lovely large ensuite room on the first floor overlooking the tree lined street. The two twin beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was great and the strong coffee started your day off well. The suggested resturant just around the corner was very good. Bus service is just at the start of street 200 meters and runs every 10-15 min. We loved this hotel and would stay here again. If you come to Munich for OctoberFest the grounds are at the end of the street 300 meters. The cost was 174 euros and a bargin at that price. This is a wonderful hotel.

Charming neighborhood

It was May. It was cold and rainy. The hotel is a three-star gem - English-speaking staff very helpful for guiding us to a lovely Bavarian-style restaurant close by on Beethovenplatz.

You may borrow one of the many bicycles there for touring the city. Coffee and tea are available all day in the lounge; also a bookshelf to select a good read from, many languages! The included breakfast was excellent, large choice of foods. Rooms with lovely high ceilings, spacious and cold as heat was off and temperature was down. But cozy feather duvets chased the chill.

Clean, neat hotel. If we ever return to Munich we would stay here again. It's right by the Octoberfest park. Good rates.

Unique Quality: The neighborhood is just off a main street but was quiet. Large beautiful old homes all around.

Hotel with Gemütlichkeit

by A TripAdvisor Member

I stayed at the Hotel Uhland in August 2004, but I was reminded of the hotel recently while watching the 1976 film "The American Friend / Der amerikanische Freund". I was quite surprised to find that the hotel played a small part in this movie starring Dennis Hopper and Bruno Ganz.

During my visit, the staff of the hotel was very friendly and professional. As other reviews have indicated, the rooms are relatively basic but very clean. The breakfast is quite nice, and the location of the hotel is ideal. I will definitely be staying there on my next vist to Munich.

Will Stay Again When in Munich

by TripAdvisor Member Trip-the-Light

I stayed at the Hotel Uhland in January 2004 and loved it. The staff was friendly, helpful, and most spoke English. The breakfast was the best I had in Europe (selection of sliced meats, veggies, breads, fresh fruit juices, etc.). The location is very convenient, close to things but in a quiet neighborhood. There is a bus stop at the end of the block and the U-Bahn station is about a 2-minute walk. The hotel is located near the Oktoberfest grounds. We were there in winter so can't comment on how it is during Oktoberfest but we were very satisfied with our winter time visit and will stay there again, if we make it back to Munich.

friendly staff and good location

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Uhland in Munich in December 2004 and had a wonderful time. The hotel is located just west of the historic center of Munich in an attractive neighborhood. It is a 20 minute walk to the Marienplatz or you can catch the Underground just across the street.

The staff is helpful and enthusiastic. The hotel manager will even show you why she named her dog Lisa after a character in a children's storybook. The continental breakfast is generous and includes an outstanding home made fresh berry yogurt ( even in the middle of december!). Our room had a comfortable water bed and was well decorated. The only negative was that it took more than 5 minutes for hot water to reach our shower during the days when temperatures dipped near 20 degrees F.

Highly recommendly family run and personal hotel.

Good value - great breakfast!

I stayed at the Hotel Uhland in December 2004 with my partner for a 3 nights. This was our first visit to Munich and we were really pleased with the hotels location on a quiet leafy street, but still close enough to walk into the city centre. (Alternatively there is a U-Bahn station within 2 mins) Our room was spacious with a balcony (although we didnt make much use of that as it was snowing!) and a small bathroom with all the essentials. The main attractions though are the very friendly staff and a fantastic buffet breakfast which kept us going until our evening meal! As a vegetarian I struggle slightly with German food but this was great with plenty of choice. The only slight problem was that as this is a lovely old building with high ceilings the room was slightly cold at night, but then it was December and it added to the experience! It's a great excuse for some Gluwein!

Note to Ingo, Daniel, Pete, and B.Horton

Just wanted to say thanks for your very helpful advice.
I have copied it all and will be using it to plan. This trip will take a lot of preparation so the suggestions are very much appreciated.
If you have any suggestions of a 2-3 star hotel in a convenient part of Munich, I'd be interested.
Also any suggestions about unique things or places to see along the route would be helpful.
Thanks again.

The hotel Uhland is the most friendly hotel I have been to in Europe (which granted is only about 7 hotels but it was #1).

If you want more info a great site to review hotels is www.tripadvisor.com. Hotel Uhland got high marks from me and many others.

Enjoy Munich...it's a great town!
