I am planning to fly to Munich in September of 2011 for about a month and would appreciate it very much if someone could give me information on appropriate agencies..
Thank you, Klaus Peters

Auto Europe is another agency with good rates:

AutoEurope mentioned above or http://www.kemwel.com/

Also check the major rental agencies. Compare all for prices. There is often a huge difference so you might as well get the best bargain.

Enjoy your trip.

If you stay however in Munich itself you won't need a car. At least not the whole time. Munich has some of the best local public transport systems on the planet.

Travel Tips for Munich

Neue Pinakotheke

by garibaldi

Here some info about Neue Pinakotheke. Nearby you'll find the Alt and Moderne Pinakotheke.
Sunday admission 1 euro. During the week 5 € (with audioguide). Closed on tuesday (how I've discovered myself! no info about this on Tourist Info Brochure...!)

This is a toboggan ride at Oktoberfest. Men hold
kids' hands while they ride up the fast conveyor belt to the top. Then the kids are sent immediately into a big slide/chute, where they rocket down to the ground. This is one of the many rides I would not recommend if you've had too much to drink!

When visiting Munich you absolutely must: Learn the song of the year at Oktoberfest!

Fondest memory of Munich: Evidently, every year they pick a theme song for Oktoberfest. It's a song that they sing every 10 minutes in the beer hauses, and then groups of young men go around singing it at the top of their lungs after numerous beers. In 2000, it was the song, 'Hey Baby,' which can be heard on the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. It was fun to hear people singing it in their German accents everywhere we went--even on the trains in Munich!

Alte Rathaus. Looks more modest next to its 'new' counterpart. Originally built in 1474, it looks so good nowadays, that I suspect it was totally renovated after the World War II. Actually I do not know the correct explanation of the fact, maybe someone will enlighten me. Thank for VT member Prosperity I know that there is a museum of toys (Spielzeugmuseum) inside the building.

Schäfflertanz - a great tradition in Munich

by globetrott

Schäffler was an important guild in Bavaria of previous centuries.

"Schäffler" is the professional, making wooden vats and similar things.
Of course a region like Bavaria needed a lot of them for their beer-poduction, that way Schäffler became rich and wealthy.

Today you may still see them performing their well-known "Schäffler-tanz" :
Normally it is a group of several people in their traditional costumes dancing with a garland, like to be seen on my picture-combination.

Also on the Rathaus / townhall in Munich you will see some "Schäffler" - sculptures performing their dances in the Glockenspiel / chimes.

Schäfflerstrasse in Munich - where I took this pic - is halfway from Marienplatz to Odeonsplatz

When watching the "Trachten-umzug" on 1st saturday of Oktoberfest you will see them as well !

Teufelsschritt in the Frauenkirche

by Sematay

If you go to visit the Frauenkirche, be sure to notice the "Teufelsschritt" in the floor of the entrance way. From that spot, no windows can be seen because they are blocked by columns. Legend has it that the Devil made a deal with the builder of the church that no windows be put in the church, but when he realized he had been tricked he stomped his foot in rage and left an imprint.

Stories like that fascinate me, (even if the it is debatable whether the Devil's foot is human shaped, lol)
