Old time hotel

Stayed for a couple of nights in September, purely because my usual places were full (Oktoberfest). Really suprised by this place. It's a good three star near to the Hauptbahnhof - but it's quirky. The entire hotel seems to wood panelled and my room was made up of three small rooms joined together - canopied bed, lots of woodwork and - bafflingly a two ring cooker in a tall wardrobe.
Staff were great, room was clean, the bar was fun and the lift efficient - overall a nice suprise , I'm going to make this my regular in Munich for a while.

A real 4-star gem

Just as a bad hotel can ruin an otherwise enjoyable destination, an exceptional hotel can multiply the enjoyment. The King's comes firmly in the second category.

It is not expensive but it really does feel as if it should be. Whilst being quite small it is modestly opulent and exceptionally comfortable. The staff and service are seriously good.

The hotel is a five minute walk from the Haubtbahnhof (Munich Central Station) and the bus stops for the Autobus Oberbayern day excursions (to Salzburg, Garmisch, Neunschwanstein, Chiemsee etc). The Marienplatz is 5 minutes by S-Bahn from the station or a 20 minute walk on foot. It's worth the walk as you hit the posh department stores and lively al fresco resturants of the Karlsplatz and Neuhauser Str. within 10 minutes of setting off.

I wouldn't say that Dachauser Strasse is the most salobrious street in Munich. It's a little grimy and just over the road is a table dancing club called "Boobs". However, not once did we ever feel threatened or uncomfortable walking around at night.

Unique Quality: How to describe the decor? I know, one word - WOOD! Wood everywhere. Wooden panels, wooden four-poster beds, wood-framed paintings, wood carvings, wood, wood, wood. And good wood it is. Very Bavarian in fact.

Another unique quality - security. Room safes with 6-digit passwords. A lift you can only access with your room cardkey. Quite why they go to such lengths I don't know - Munich is one of the safest citys in Europe - but it's nice all the same.

And beer - the Spaten Helles lager served in the bar is delicious.

At risk of having them raise the rate, I don't know how they do it for the price. Our room was clean, nicely decorated and quiet even though it was in the front of the building on the 4th floor. Book directly with the hotel for the best rate. The location is superbly located one block from the main train station. Parking facilities are conveniently located on premises. The staff is very helpful.

Very nice stay. A good location.

King's Hotel First Class is in a wonderful location about five minutes from the train stationin Munich and about a fifteen minute walk to Marionplatz in Munich where this is tons of cafes and shops and beer gardens. The only problem we had with the hotel was with the water in the bathroom. There was some wierd knobs on the wall, which controlled the hot and cold for the water in both the sink and shower. It took us some time to figure out, but after we did it was great. The hotel has a wonderul (but not free) breakfast buffet every morning. We would definatly consider staying at the King's Hotel First Class if we went to Munich again.

Less than impressed.

After having reservations for several weeks, we arrived only to be put in a room across the alley from the hotel in what looked like an overflow area. On the same floor with us was a karate gym with people coming and going at all hours. The carpet was old and filthy. The room was tiny. A very disappointing experience.

Good location

This hotel is located only a few minutes on foot away from the Hauptbahnhof which was a huge plus. It is far enough away from the station to avoid the noise though - at least we didn't have any trouble sleeping (could have been the beer though). The staff is very courteous and helpful. The rooms are very tidy and clean although it did seem that our room was arranged in a less than convenient manner due to the bulky pieces of furniture. My husband and I could only get from one side of the room to the other one person at a time! We stayed here for 3 nights during Oktoberfest so we paid what I consider to be a very pricey rate. Nevertheless the location really paid off. You can get to Theriesienweise or the Marienplatz on foot (about 15-20min walk for both) or you can just go over to the Hauptbahnhof and catch just about any metro line.

Perfect Location

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It is situated a couple of mins walk from Central Station and 2 stops from the shopping district of Marianplatz. It is an excellent hotel, clean and very quiet. The staff are very hospitable and speak perfect English. I would highly recommend it for couples who are looking to do some sight-seeing, shopping and enjoy some good nightlife in the evenings.

Great location, price

The hotel was in a fabulous location close to the main train station. It was within walking distance to Marienplatz (about 10 minutes).
Our room was very comfortable and on a non-smoking floor. It was not large but worked perfectly. We did not buy the 15 euro breakfast but instead picked up pastries at the discount bakery across the street.
We arrived early (about 1pm) and were able to check in to our room right away, which was a great convenience. I highly recommend the hotel for the price (we booked via an expedia flight/hotel package) and location.

Great place to stay

Highlights of staying here: location, location, location. After traveling overnight from the USA and being in travel mode most of the day the location of the hotel was very welcome. It is only blocks from the main rail station, the Hauptbahnhof. This is also a local transportation hub for Munich: subways, trolleys, buses. You can also walk two blocks to the largest department store in Munich (something like a Macy's in NYC) and on to the Marienplatz pedestrian shopping strip. Our next leg of the trip was by rail so having the main station a 5-minute walk away was a big plus. The neighborhood is safe.

The breakfast is excellent, but costly if you didn't book it with the room. You can sometimes get a good deal on that. It didn't matter much to us as we picked up pastries and coffee across the street in the bakery - there is also a grocery store just up the street. And plenty of other nearby breakfast options. A good brewhaus restaurant is just around the block (near the sister Kings Hotel) with good food, beer and ambience--recommended after a long day traveling. You can also grab a drink at the hotel's bar, a small friendly, family type atmosphere (even with your pet!).

The room was not spacious but met all of our needs and was very clean. See my two pics.

Great Value Hotel

The Kings Center Hotel First Class is perfectlyy located. It is within walking distance from the main train station and all of the attractions in the city center. Subway access is also within walking distance (along with the Lowenbrau Beer Hall). The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. Skip the breakfast buffet, it is extermely overpriced (as well as a pot of coffee). You can beat the location, I would not hesitate to stay there again
