Dear sir,

We arrive in Munich Airport on a Thursday,Sept 23 and depart on the following Sunday, September26. Can you advise the best ticket combination. I believe there is a 2-5 people traveling together option (our group is all one family with seniors over 60).

Thank you

Terry

In the city itself there are day tickets available but I,m not sure how they are priced. The Bavaria ticket is valid for trains throughout Bavaria and the ticket for E28 covers 2 - 5 people travelling together. Not valid before 9a.m. on weekdays or on the fast trains like Intercity or Eurocity. Regional trains are the main ones covered. However a bargain price considering you can travel a long distance in a day and the s-bahn in Munich is covered with this as well. A couple of trips if you wanted to go away for a day would be to Salzburg, which is still covered, or Lindau on the Lake of Constance. No concession for seniors. The public transport website in Munich is MVV and you can select English, the German Rail website is Deutsche Bahn and again English can be selected, by looking at this yiu could plan your trips.

To travel from Munich Airport to Munich the best deal is a MVV partner day ticket. EUR 18,80 for 2-5 persons traveling together (single ticket is EUR 9,60).
http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/home/index.html

Otherwise it depends on your plans.
City of Munich: MVV partner day ticket for the inner area. EUR 9,40
Munich + neighbouring towns like Dachau: MVV partner day ticket Munich XXL. EUR 12,30
whole MVV network: MVV partner day ticket for the entire area. EUR 18,80
Bavaria: Bayern Ticket. EUR 28,00 (again for 2-5 persons traveling together)

MVV day tickets are valid from the time of validation (stamping) till 6am next day. Bayern Ticket is valid
Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day
Bayern Ticket includes the MVV. All these tickets are local public transport tickets. Covering regional trains (RB, RE, ALX, BOB), S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams and buses. Long distance trains like IC/EC, railjet or ICE are not covered.

Travel Tips for Munich

Rent a bike!!

by klasher

The best way to see this city is on a bike. There are bike paths anywhere you want to go! You can rent bikes from Mike's Bike Tours or there are these bikes on the street and all it takes is a phone call and a credit card to unlock the lock. When you are done, simply chain it back up and phone the company and tell them where you left the bike. I never did this, so I'm unsure of the cost. To rent from Mike, go by the Discover Bavaria shop near the rear entrance of the Hofbrauhaus.

In Munich everything is warm....

In Munich everything is warm. Except for the weather. Food is good, people are kind and the exceptional culture of beer makes it a nice place to pass a weekend. Staying in taverns sipping beer while outside it was snowing.

Frauenkirche - the Munich cathedral. Surprisingly shaped towers are seen from anywhere, but it is very difficult to get a full picture of the church. On the walls of the church you can see old stone plates full of gothic letters, next to quite modern plates that warn you about possibility of stone fall from the walls in the case of strong winds.

Have a Weißbier! And then another one! And then...
A very tasty beer, brewed, of course, under the BAVARIAN PURITY LAW. Like the brewer's oath, it states that nothing may be added to beer other than barley, hops and water.
Prost!

Old Germanic items not usual found at good prices.

by charlesracine

Flea markets can be great places to find nice unusual German items. You won't always find interesting items but, at good local flea markets (not where the new stuff prevails) one can find very good stuff at reasonable prices. They can be found all areas of Germany and are on Saturday or Sunday normally. One can ask at the tourist info's at the train station or buy a monthly magazine, which lists them around the country, also at the train station.

For example liederhosen are very expensive to buy new. But, we bought some used ones at a flea market / flo markt for about 30DM and today that would likely be about $20- to $25-. We bought three pair in Duesseldorf at the Saturday market at Aachener Platz. But, they have them in all areas and in Munich I believe they are on Saturday normally.
