Quiet Hotel on the West Side of Munich

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 28, 2014

The Landgasthof Deutsche Eiche, not to be confused with the Hotel Deutsche Eiche downtown, is a quiet retreat for those who don't mind to be a bit outside the city center. Located in the neighborhood of Lochhausen, the hotel is a 20-minute S-Bahn ride from the downtown sightseeing action, but it is a convenient 2 stops away from Pasing station, with easy connections to the Ammersee and Starnbergersee. 3 stops away is Laim, which gives you access to Nymphenburg Palace and the Hirschgarten.

We booked a double room with an extra cot for Minifrosch. The room was spacious and comfortable, and service was very friendly and helpful, even letting us drop our bags in the room before it was ready to occupy. The buffet breakfast was excellent, including hot scrambled eggs and cold eggs to boil yourself. Our only nitpicks were that the Wi-Fi did not work in the room, and that we were charged EUR 25 per night for Minifrosch (though I got the impression this was the doing of the 3rd party booking website and not the hotel; next time we'll book directly). Another minor warning is that reception is not manned when the attached restaurant and beer garden is busy, so unless you want to wander through the beer garden in search of help, it's probably best to take your room key with you.

Unique Quality: - Quiet, Friendly hotel away from the city center
- Attached restaurant and beer garden
- Excellent buffet breakfast included
- Complimentary Wi-Fi in the common areas

Directions: Take the S-3 to Lochhausen. Turn left on Lochhausenerstrasse, then turn right on Ranertstrasse. Hotel will be on the right.
