The Eagles Nest

by lisa18752003

Hello everyone,

Im going to Munich in May and was hoping to Visit the Eagles nest, i went last year on a tour but i was hoping to get the train from Munich to Berchtesgaden and pay for the bus to take us up to the Eagles Nest locally. Does anyone know how frequent the buses are and also how much they cost? i have found times for the train but the fares are not displayable, does anyopne know howe much the train is from central Munich to Bercgtesgaden?

Help is much appreciated =)

Eagles Nest is closed until mid May, depending on the weather even until end of May. You have to check the website to find out when they are going to open.
http://www.kehlsteinhaus.de/en/anfahrt/index.php?navid=6

To get from Munich to Berchtesgaden you can use the Bavaria ticket for one person, 21 Euro, valid from 9 am on a weekday, local trains only. I don't know if the bus up to Eagle's Nest is also covered, sorry. It is if it's a public bus.
But it's a long train ride from Munich, almost four hours, involving two changes. Maybe it's better to spend the night in Berchtesgaden?

Thanks Christine,

We plan to stay in Berchtesgaden for 1 night, doing it all in one day is a bit on a journey. Its such a nice place, it wwould be nice to spend more time there instead of on the rushed tour.

Thanks

DB timetable gives prices only 92 days in advance. Thus you could check with an earlier date. The prices won't change. If you want to use a Bayern Ticket select as means of transport "only local transport".

Kehlstein (Eagle's Nest) bus line #849: prices and times for 2010

Won't change or at least not much for 2011.

This bus line is not covered by a Bayern Ticket. The other bus lines in Berchtesgaden are however covered.

Travel Tips for Munich

Great Alternative for the Oktoberfest

by Edition

Who doesn't love the Oktoberfest?
But who has ever been there knows the hazzle of getting into one of the big tents, not mentioning finding a seat or even an entire table...
So last year, my friends and I decided to follow the advice of a local friend and tried an alternative: "Das Wiesnzelt am Stiglmaierplatz". Though it is not directly located at the Oktoberfest, it's just a few minutes away. The tent is located in the historic Löwenbräukeller and offers genuine Wiesn-atmosphere without the usual closing time, all other tents are bound to. There was an awesome band playing, literally around the clock (not like in the tents, where they take more breaks than actually play music). And when we were all kind of fed up with the bavarian ratatata music and up to party, we didn't even have to leave the place. In a seperate room upstairs is an After Party with hip DJ music and cool drinks. the best thing was that we could book our table online in advance, conveniently on their website at www.daswiesnzelt.de. I already made my reservation for this year, as I am definetly coming back! Munich be aware:-) Oktoberfest - every year again:-)

Oktoberfest is coming!

by wildstrawberries

This year's Oktoberfest starts from 20 Sep to 5 October. It will be like a huge carnival with many tents erected for beer-drinking crowds and funfairs.

Come and chill out! Don't be late!

Historic Architecture

by Henkster

Personally, I prefer old, historic architecture 10 times over modern glass and steel constructions. In Munich the old way of buildings can be found in many parts like Schwabing, Haidhausen, Lehel or Bogenhausen. Schwabing is also very famous for its many beautiful Jugendstil (Art Noveau) buildings.

Deutsch zu lernen

by orlikins

Munich is probably the worst place to go in Germany, if you want to learn German. First of all, you've got the Bairish dialect & accent to contend with and secondly, there are so many Anglophones living in the city so when you're in town, people will pick up on that and will talk to you in English, even if you originally try talking auf Deutsch.

Running and Inline Skating

by claudia1975

Running and Inline skating at the English garden is a common activity during good weather. In summer you can additionally watch jugglers and diabolo-artists, people practising Tai Chi or Yoga ….etc.
The English Garden is the biggest city park of the world - bigger than New York's Central Park.
Running is furthermore good along the Isar north and south of the Museums-island (where the German museum is located). For ambitional runners there are several 10k and other runs all year round, which you can find on runners webpages. Famous is the Munich marathon as well as the New Year’s run. - running shoes and clothes
- inline skates
- all kinds of fun sports equippment
