2 day stay, wanted place close to the center, we based our decision on past very good experiences with pensions in Austria and Germany and also on photos on their web site. The photos are lying, as well as the prices mentioned there. Check them first over the phone as we did! Off the season and Octoberfest, in the middle of the week and still were 50% up.
The place is falling apart - everything is squeezy and loose, often very dirty. You can hear everything from the other rooms (luckily, we were alone on the floor most of the time and you might be as well, thanks to users reviews). Be prepare to climb up the squeezy staircase all the way to the top floor with your luggage. I found it disgousting and shameful for the standard I'd expect in Germany and in comparison with other Pensions/Guesthouses I ever staid in.
Unique Quality: The improvised access through narrow steep staircase from a corridor leading to yard to a "reception" on the first floor feels like entering a bunker from WWII (except that you have to climb UP the stairs with your luggage).
Directions: Located opposite a sexual services shop on Schillerstrasse - you won't miss the pink hearts blinking all the night.
We had arranged with Pension Lugano to have a room available for us at 5:50am as our flight from Hong Kong arrived Munich at approx 5am. Arriving at Pension just before 6am we could not raise anyone, reception locked and no one answered phone. We had a confirmation email from them. We found a bakery had breakfast and tried again without luck, then decided to do some sightseeing carting our luggage with us. Eventually at 8:30am reception was open, we were told we were a "No Show" and my credit card had already been debited. My protest was ignored, the email confirmation ignored and we were given a room for the next 2 nights.
The room was below standard, the inside of the refrigerator was dirty and the room had not been cleaned properly.
I cannot recommend this pension
Unique Quality: None. In an ethnic area of the city, nightclubs / red light area accross the road and we were wary when out at night
