3 star hotels in Munich in December

by 16fletch

Looking for a 3 star hotel or Bed and Breakfast or apartment in Munich for 5 days in December for 4 people. Does anyone have input on these hotels?
SUITEHOTEL MÜNCHEN PARKSTADT SCHWABING or Hotel Uhlich? I have looked quite a bit, and several hotels are closed during Christmas. Would like to pay less than $250 each night for 4 people if possible.

Hi,

I once stayed at a 3 star hotel by the name of Hotel Under Oper, it was very nice and reasonably priced. The location was amazing, right behind maximillian strasse which is one of the largest shopping areas.

Regards

I have stayed at an apartment called Ferienwohnung Oberfeld in Starnberg, there are 2 apartments both on ground level and the owners live upstairs. there is a website, find it on google and look at the pictures. They were renovated in the last few years and I find very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The smaller one, A2 has a double bed, ensuite bathroom and small living/kitchen area which would be fine for 2 people. The other, A1, is bigger . I think it also has 1 bedroom but a much larger living area. there is a laundry between the 2 apartments to share and you could actually leave the doors open if you wanted to just walk into both flats. Starnberg is a lovely town on a lake, direct s-bahn s6 from the city, about 25 mins from Munich centre direction Tutzing. The apartment is about a 15 minute walk from the station up a bit of a hill, I use a taxi from the Starnberg station if I have luggage. The owner, an architect, speaks English so you could email him using the link on the website.

Further to my answer there are still vacancies at Christmas from 23rd Dec.and the website is apartment Oberfeld, if you wanted to make enquiries click on expressanfrage and you can ask the owner about reservation. I really enjoy staying here, the town is easily walkable for shopping, and the lake is lovely. There is a Tengelmann supermarket in the town which I find has an excellent array of ready made salads, cooked meats and so on so no need to actually cook if you don,t want to.

Neues Rathaus. Glockenspieluhr

The clock has 5th place among the biggest clock over the world. The clock was built in 1908 and shows scenes of local Dukes' ife of XVI-XVII centuries. Unfortunately I didn't see and didn't found infromation how it works (my knowledge of German is not enough to read guidebooks) :-)

The fish-well (FISCHBRUNNEN)...

The fish-well (FISCHBRUNNEN) directly in front of RATHAUS at MARIENPLATZ is a meeting point for everyone who wants to meet another person in Munich! Every day & night there are young people waiting for the pendant....!

I was not sure where to place...

by Ternera

I was not sure where to place this tip - either at the nightlife, the general info or the cultural tips. In the end I thought the OCTOBERFEST is more a cultural thing for the Bavarians since it´s beginning goes back to October 12, 1810: four years after Bavaria had become a kingdom, crown prince Ludwig of Bavaria (who was to be King Ludwig I) married princess Therese of Saxon-Hildburghausen. The official festivities lasted five days and included parades of riflemen, music, eating and drinking. The festivities ended with a horse race held on a green which was situated in those days outside of the city limits and named 'Theresienwiese' (Theresa's green) in honour of the bride. Over the next years the horse race was repeated and the Oktoberfest, also called 'Wiesn' was born.

Allianz Arena

The new stadium built for the 2006 soccer world cup. It is shared by München's two top teams, FC Bayern and tsv 1860. Very impressive inside and out, try to see it at night when it is lit in the colours of the team playing, thats Bayern - red, 1860 - blue.
I was lucky to watch 1860 play Eintracht Braunschweig, a 1-0 home win, almost 41,000 people there too. Tickets on sale on the approach to the stadium from the U-Bahn

Take a Dip

by roadnottaken

If you want to 'do as the Romans', take a dip in the Isar River in Englischergarten. As soon as you get in, the strong current pulls you along until you feel like getting out. You can then climb out and walk back to where you started ... or right on to a biergarten.
