SBahns & UBahns are great
by RACCOON1
Munich is a thoroughly modern city with a superb transportation system. Spent three days in Munich in early Feb. Set a record for money spent in a three day period . If you go to a beer garden , which you should , please beware that the minimum serving of beer is 1 litre. If there are two in the party , to be polite , you have to order two steins of beer. You should see the next larger steins.

Shopping galore in this treasure rich site.
Notice the blue and white decorated maypole in this picture... I don't think anyone's going to try taking that one, but the bavarian countryside is dotted with them. Residents often guard these highly prized maypoles from their neighbors. Its a local custom surely enjoyed by those who honor its symbol in fine traditional revelry.

Theatinerkirche, built in 1675 in Italian baroque, used to be a princes' tomb. At least my city guide says it. I had no chance to check it out since it was closed at that time (early morning). This photo is taken from inside Hofgarten. You can also see gates of Hofgarten in this photo. They are very interesting, although it is not seen on the photo. When you find yourself between two rows of columns at the gates, you will see nice frescoes that depict history of Munich and Bavaria from the Middle Ages: warriors, kings, horses, knights, peasants, etc.

visit Neue Pinakotek. This wonderful museum offers excellent selection of 18th and 19th-century art.
My favorite are some paintings by Monet, van Gogh and Manet…but there are also David, Gainsborough, Goya and many others…
Day Trips
by antistar
There are a number of great day trips possible from Munich, if for some reason you run out of things to do in the city itself. Within easy reach of the city by train or car are some fabulous destinations, including Mozart's Salzburg in Austria (1h30), the Alpine resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen (1h30), the Danubian fog hole of medieval Regensburg (1h30), and the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein (2h).
