Munichs Best Hotel...Value For Money

Hi,
We travel to Europe all the time, and when in Munich we stay in the Tryp hotel. It is only a few minutes walk from the station, it is ideal. The tarriff is very reasonable, about the same as a good hostel. Their breakfasts are unbelieveable and included. Just google them and have a look. The way to get the cheapest tarriff is to go to the tourist office {at the station} and get aprice and book from there...a lot cheaper.
Hope this is of some help.
Gunar& Vicki PS. We always backpack and we can afford to stay there. It is 4Star!

Nice hotel - decent location

A decent hotel in a good but not great location about 4 blocks south of the main rail station.

Basic 3* hotel

We arrived on the 15th of January and stayed for 8 days.

Location:

Not bad, its about 10 to 15 minutes by walk from the Hauptbahnhof (central station) or 1 stop away on the metro located about 3 minutes walk from the hotel. Its a quite area, located next to plenty of Asian/Arabic grocery stores and restaurants.

Hotel Staff:

Im not the kind that waits for smiles/hellos from staff (but it would be nice) but \i do expect courteous replies when we ask for directions or suggestions. Just really dry staff, and I do have the authority to judge this because we stayed 8 nights, so we met all of the staff who workeds (both day and night shifts).

Hotel interior:

Rather new but not really nice, just convenient.
Rooms are not so nice. Double beds are actually two singles pushed together (so yes you legs/arms will fall between the 2 matteresses since each bed/matress is wrapped by its own bed sheet).

Rooms were plenty dusty!!! That was probably what turned us off the most. My wife had to literally dust it herself.
Furniture and carpet were already aged (probably due to negligence from the cleaning staff - theory obvious due to the blatant dust all over the place).
Bathroom was ok, really clean!

Hotel service:
Dusty!!
Apparently not all rooms have safes. He said that not all rooms have safes, only the business rooms. Thats not cool.
They will service your room even if you hang the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. They did that 4 days in a row even though I complained each following day.

The rooms were bare, no brochures.

Bathrooms didnt have any accessories except a tube of handwash (installed on the wall) and a shampoo/body soap combination tube also hanging/attached to the wall.

Breakfast Buffet:

Acceptable. There was plenty of pork sausages, breads, jams, fruits, egg, croissants and boxed juice.
You had to squeeze the oranges yourself on a device probably made in 1970.
Overall we were not impressed and will definitely not stay at any TRYP hotels.

Sirens Sirens ALL NIGHT LONG!

by TripAdvisor Member transatlanticwedplan

We managed to get a very good deal on this hotel as a packaged deal with Lufthansa flights from London Heathrow. It says 4 star but I think this is slightly misleading.

The rooms were basic and nothing special. I visited the fitness room as soon as we arrived hoping for a good workout before I hit the beer halls and food stalls. When I arrived into the fitness room it was pretty clear it was an afterthought on the hotels part. It has a stationary bike circa 1975 and an early step machine model that squeaks more than anything else. Not a treadmill in sight. I guess I had high hopes. Do not book this hotel thinking you are getting access to a very good fitness room!

There is one glaring thing that bugged the hell out of us. It was very hot in our room even after the radiators were turned off. This forced us to sleep with the windows open in early March, which can be a bit chilly in Munich. Also, I think the hotel sits on a street that is frequented by emergency services because there were sirens all night long and all morning long. Not sure what this is about but it does not make for peaceful slumber.

Now for the good points! You can't beat it's location. It is 5 minutes from Hoptbanhof(central train station) and super close to the grounds where Oktoberfest are held. The staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were cleaned very well each day.

It is cheap and cheerful. You get what you pay for on this one.

Good value for the money

by TripAdvisor Member clp99336

The hotel is good value for the money. We arrived early in the morning after an 18-hour trip, and were allowed to check into our room several hours before the check-in time. The room was very nice. Hotel is at a good location, close to central Munich. Front desk staff was always pleasant and polite, and spoke good English. Complaints that I have: 1) our bedding/sheets was not changed once in the week we were there; 2) cleaning staff threw out my husband's denture cleaning tablets on the second day, even though they left his other toiletries alone -- they also threw away a pair of my socks; 3) buffet breakfast was horribly expensive for what you got -- what there was was nicely prepared, though, but the cost was about three times what you'd pay for the same breakfast at similar hotels in the USA. We only ate there once because of the price; 4) for whatever reason, the TV turned itself on every four hours during the night, waking us up.

A great hotel to stay

by TripAdvisor Member suzykate

Having read the other reviews before travelling to this hotel i wasnt too sure what to expect. However having stayed at this hotel for 6 nights i can safely say that this is a great hotel for a break in Munich. Its is very centrally located (a 5 minute walk from train station) and is easy to find. We didnt eat breakfast there as it was a bit expensive but there are plently of places nearby where you are able to get something easily. The hotel and rooms were very clean and maids were in every day (as per previous review the bed sheets werent changed everyday but i dont change mine everyday at home so it wasnt a problem). The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. Couldnt have asked for anything more & would stay there again if i returned to Munich

Great value, convenient location

by TripAdvisor Member UK_L

We got a really good deal on Expedia - less than £40 per night - so were a bit wary about what we would get. However, the hotel was great. Staff were friendly and happy to give advice about getting around etc, room was good. Close (2 mins walk) to Theresienwiese u-bahn (U4 & U5) & not far away from to Haupthanhof Central Station (about 6 or 7 mins walk). Would definitely stay there again & would recommend it to others.

Good hotel - a short walk (10 mins) to the main train station

by TripAdvisor Member TorontoCart

Very nice hotel with friendly staff. A short walk to the main train station. Only 15-20 minutes to the city centre. Paid around $100 US from otels.com

The breakfast was not complimentary but there were several reasonably
priced cafes, hot tables nearby.

I enjoyed Munich. Would go again and book at this hotel again.

good location, awesome breakfast buffet!!

by TripAdvisor Member whomever

well located just a few blocks from the train station. i took the train for 8.8 euro from the airport and easily walked to the hotel. the hotel is clean, quiet (ask for a room facing the inner courtyard not the stree), safe. interesting shopping streets nearby including produce markets and turkish restaurants. the hotel had a FANTASTIC breakfast buffet!!!

Great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member karenhutcheson

As per other reviewers, I was a wee bit worried as to what might be awaiting us on arrival at the hotel, but my fears were completely unfounded. There were 6 of us in 3 rooms and no complaints whatsover from any of us. Lovely, spotlessly clean hotel. Room was very nice. Brilliant power shower and always hot water. Not a lot of storage space, but we were only there 3 nights so no problem to us. Lovely pina colada from the bar! Location was fine. 15 minute walk to Marienplatz. We never ate breakfast in the hotel but found the Cafe am Beethoven, as recommended by another Trip Advisor member, very nice. Had a lovely Turkish meal on one occasion which was very near the hotel. If you wanted to go to the Oktoberfest, this hotel is in an ideal location. We used cityhoppa.com for transport to and from airport at a cost of £134 for 6 of us, we would highly recommend this company if there were a few of you. Great, punctual service. We enjoyed Munich and the beer plus the weather was 30 degrees, who could ask for more!!

Bad Tryp

by TripAdvisor Member Abby_Beth

The hotel was billed as a 4 star when booked, unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The room was very small, the twin room we had booked were actually a double bed with two single duvets. The morning was very noisy as there is building work going on opposite the hotel, which looks like it could run for several months. The location was good, very close to the central train station, and ten minutes walk to the centre and there was a metro station at the end of the road.
the hotel is fine if you are looking for a budget place to rest your head at night but don't expect luxury accommodation or a lie in!

Place to stay in Munich

by world_citizen

Hi,
Can anyone recommend me a good inexpensive place for 2 people to stay in Munich in April?
Many thanks!

Hi!

If you are looking for a hostel I would recommend Wombat's in Senefelder Straße. It's clean, cheap and central (a few steps from the main station).

Hope this helps,

I booked a cheaper hotel from http://www.expedia.com. Tryp Muenchen hotel only $365.56 for 4 nights of double room without breakfast. It is in centre of munich. I saw good comments from tourists. I will experience it next week.
