Hi. I live sort of close to Nuremberg (and have to go there a lot, which I always do by train). I have also a friend in Munich, who I was going to visit by train, but then ended up going there by car. So unfortunately I can't give you any details, but I think the only real option to get from Munich to Nuremberg is by train. The distance is about 200km's..by car it takes usually about 2 hours or a little less..however if you take the train, you have 2 options Regionalbahn or Regionalexpress (which is the regular fee) or ICE (a fast train). Train rides aren't exactly cheap in germany, I'm afraid, but if you take the regular fee (second class of course) you should get there in up to 4 hours...

You should go to the website www.bahn.de and click on 'english' at the left upper part of the page. I hope you can handle the rest on your own, b/c i have to catch a bus now.

But..keep in mind..if it says RE (Regionalexpress) and RB (Regionalbahn) and you have an option you should always go for Regionalexpress, b/c those are usually the more comfortable trains (and the faster ones). Sitting in a Regionalbahn isn't exactly comfortable...but the Regionalexpress trains are usually fairly comfortable (I think this is only true if you travel before late in the afternoon, but as a rule of thumb the trains that go faster usually are the more comfortable (because newer) ones, too)

Check trains at www.bahn.de. Click on "International Guests" for the English version.Type in MuEnchen and NuErnberg to get results, the two dots on the u mean ue.
You see "means of transport", and you can decide if you want local trains only or the fast ones.

christine, you are very helpful, but also you under estimating the DB site, it is working very well with umlauts or not. It understands Munich as well as Munchen and Muenchen and will display results as München & Munich :-)
Very nice in did.

Good old DB! I guess it does work with the bigger cities, without an Umlaut I mean.

Zdrastuy Elena,

The München Airport to the Nürnberg main trail station would be around 2.5 hours to 4.5 hours, depending on transfers, and would cost less than 50 Euros one way. Lufthansa has around four direct daily flights from München to Nürnberg which take less than one hour, but costs several times more. One last option that comes to mind (if you haven´t yet purchased your tickets) would be to look into the direct Kiev-Nürnberg flights on KLM.

Gute Reise!

by smoox

Hauptmarkt is also the site of Nuremberg´s most famous fountain, Schöner Brunnen. It is, again, very old and depicts the long-gone German nobility (Kurfürsten). There´s a ring in the fence around, and legend has it that if you turn the ring and make a wish, it will come true.
(Don´t ask how often I have turned this ring. It did NOT work with me, but perhaps I did not wish strong enough.)

Camping

by Maria250

"Rock at the Park"s visitors take their camping stuff from the parking lot to the
Festival's camping ground. At different checkpoints the festival bracelets going to be controlled. Visitors without vehicles receive their festival bracelet via ticket at the parking lots as well, or at the entrances. At the camping ground campers have to pay attention for keeping free emergency routes. Security make sure things are going ok.

I was a bit hesitating. The hotel where this restaurant is located looked quite poch, maybe not the place where I could sit with a book.
At the end, there is a pretty large room where you pretty much seat where you want. It was rather full but no reservation was needed. Prices where quite affordable and it was not mannered at all. Since my experience at the Heilig-Geist Spital, I was a bit more careful. I skipped the starter but ordered something that sounded similar to the main dish I had the day before.
What a surprise when they brought my 'plate'. It was literally a 'dish' that could have fed 2-3 persons and that was all for me...

City Hall

by Leipzig

The city hall of Nürnberg consists of different parts in distinctive architectural styles. The oldest is in Baroque style and was built between 1616 and 1622, most parts reflect the style of Italian Renaissance. Inside you can find a courtroom, a jail and of course numerous offices.

Luitpoldhain - Nuremberg under the Nazis

by antistar

Numerberg, like Germans in general, doesn't make a big song and dance about its Nazi history and connections. While this is completely understandable, it makes it difficult for anyone genuinely interested in World War 2 history to find these reminders of significant events in our history. The Tourist Information office doesn't push these sights, and the only information you can get on them is in the rather anonymous sounding "Nuremberg 1933-1945" booklet, which you have to ask for.

In time I think the Germans will come to be able to live with this part of their past, but in the meantime I hope they don't knock down everything. William the Conquerer was an evil tyrant too, one who killed thousands of Anglo-Saxons in the north of England starving them into submission after invading the country in 1066. He pretty much created the class system in England by dividing it into the haves (the French speaking Normans) and the have-nots (the English speaking Anglo-Saxons). He has a lot to answer for, but it would be a crying shame if his successors had torn down all the Norman castles because of his crimes and because they stood as a symbol of his oppression of the people.

In Luitpoldhain there is a beautiful park, one that the SS used to gather for the infamous Nuremberg Rallies. It contains some of the most famous symbols of the Nazi era, including the gargantuan Kongressbau and the Zeppelinfeld from where Hitler made those unforgettable and terrifying speeches. I doubt you will find any signs pointing you to the park, at least none that mention its connection to the past. To get there grab tram number 9 to Luitpoldarena and walk across to your right to enter the park.
