'Chic, charming and friendly'..........

....says the hotel slogan.

And it's certainly friendly although 'chic' and 'charming' might be stretching it a bit.

I liked this hotel. It's conveniently located about 10 minutes walk from the main railway station, right in the middle of the main shopping part of the city (although plenty of historical architecture and sights nearby as well) with lots of places to eat and only a few minutes walk over the river into the rest of the Altstadt.

There are four floors, with a lift and a small garden (for smokers, if they wish) on the first floor along with the breakfast room and free internet (with printer, so I could check-in for my flight online).

My single room was at the front (potentially noisy without earplugs and with an open window), with a comfortable bed, armchair and good storage. Also phone, TV and mini-bar/fridge. Very clean, very pleasant.

Breakfast was good, with a wide choice of rolls, meats, cheeses, preserves, fruits and fruit salad, cereals, yoghurt, fruit etc.

Staff were helpful and courteous, speaking good English. The hotel is not manned 24-hours, so you need to take your key if you are out late (it fits the main door too).

A good hotel for its price in a good location. I'd stay there again.

Garden Hotel

This is a pleasant, if cramped, three star hotel in the center of the Altstadt that I booked through the Hotel Reservation Service. The location is perfect as it is right smack in the middle of things, and easily reached from the station on the U1 line. It's clean, comfortable, friendly, but there's no much room inside and the noise from the street can be quite bad. There are a lot of bars nearby, and on my first night one had an outdoor karaoke sension going on until 2am. I was then woken by the cleaning lady who attempted to get into my room at 8am, and then crashed about in the next room so much that she knocked a sign from my wall. Pretty minor inconveniences for me, and the location was very convenient.
